May Blitz was A British power trio that was active in The They'reMUSIC often blended proggy acid rock jams with bluesy, proto-metal guitar work. The group was formed in 1969 by bassist Terry Poole and drummer Keith Baker, The rhythm section ofThe blues-rock trio Bakerloo, bothof whom leftThe group when guitarist Clem Clempson departedTo join Colosseum. Jamie BLACK joined TheOn vocals and guitars but both Poole and Baker left this group as well before itRecorded anything, Poole joining Vinegar Joe and BakerUriah Heep . BLACK then added fellow Canadian Reid Hudson On bass and Tony Newman, who had played with Jeff Beck, TheSounds incorporated,On drums After some time playing pubs in The UK, TheRecords and released their self-titled debut album in 1970. Their sophomore album, 2ndof May, followed early in 1971, butThe group did not see success quickly and decidedTo disband late in 1971. (Britch2tiger, SgtPepper/sputnikmusic.com)

May Blitz (alongside Rory Gallagher's Taste ) were among TheFirstofThe newly formed hard rock power triosTo take upThe challengeof Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience; that is, makingThe biggest possible noise withThe smallest available lineup, but never losing sightof melody and finesse while they did so. Certainly anyone catching their early Live show was guaranteed ToThe band's debut album wasA seamless reiterationof their in-concert impact, allThe way downToThe extended riffing and miniature solos. May Blitz's strongest point, in terms of audience recognition, was drummer Tony Newman, and fans ofThe jazz-inflected style that he injected intoThe Jeff Beck Group certainly won't be disappointed by what they find here -- indeed, with guitarist JamesBLACK beside him, it's not difficultTo compare May BlitzToThe Beck band's Beck-Ola, and find The better-known disc come up wanting everyTime . The epic "Smoking The DayThe grinding, almost proto-metallic assault that was May Blitz's raison d'etre; later inThe set, "Dreaming," "Virgin Waters," and "Squeet" all howl withA vengeance that mightSoundA little old-fashioned today, but was breathtakingly fresh atThe Time . Even better is " FIRE Queen," which essentially blueprints Theof every metal actFromjudas priestToThe Cult, except it doesn't hang aroundLong enough To spoilThe effect. Rather like May Blitz themselves, in fact. (Dave Thompson/allmusic.com)

James BLACK - Lead Guitar, Lead Vocals
Reid Hudson - bass guitar, vocals
