An original 1st press of COOL from 1957 on UK Capitol. Matrix 1N/1N. Stampers ... one of the stampers appears to be a 1G [which is great provenance to say the least!]. The other side might come from the 2nd mother [harder to tell]. Importantly the tax code is "XT" which is correct for '57. Note the 'turquoise' coloured label which is correct for 1st issue too. The vinyl comes housed in an original 1st issue '57 cover. Note the scalloped flipbacks - proof of age! We also have an original 'Take Care of Your Records' inner. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Vg+) In very nice looking condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection there are a few light marks per side, and one small semi-feelable mark in track 1 [which sounds briefly - see detail]. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly VERYGOOD+ level of playback with a couple of deviations. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. Not quite clean enough to hit higher grading - but very accomplished none the less. Pretty clean by and large. I did detect a bit of light background in one track per side [e.g. Moon Dreams / Boplicity]. But other than that there's some great audio rolling off this copy. I did detect 4 ticks midway through 'Move'. And a couple more in a couple of isolated spots in 'Moon Dreams'. But that was the worst of it. Overall a great little player and given the vintage - remarkable.
Cover (G) Ok, so not up to the standard of the vinyl clearly. But remember that these 50's covers are usually trashed by this point in time. A relatively clean front, but expect a bit of laminate lift at the edges and some minor damaged at the opening [tape secured]. The rear has discoloured a bit, but its still acceptable. The flipbacks look ok. The spine is well worn - so don't be expecting much there! Still it's genuine and it's hanging in there...Cool!
