"Christmas Eve on Sesame Street" is a one-hour Christmas special that first aired on December 3, 1978, on the American television network PBS. The special was produced by the Children's Television Workshop, the organization behind the long-running children's program Sesame Street.
The special follows the Sesame Street gang as they prepare for Christmas Eve. Big Bird is worried that Santa Claus won't be able to deliver presents to him because he doesn't have a chimney, so he sets out to find one. Meanwhile, Bert and Ernie decide to give each other Christmas gifts, but their plans don't quite go as expected. Other characters, such as Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, and Grover, also get caught up in the holiday spirit.
Throughout the special, there are a number of musical performances, including "Keep Christmas with You (All Through the Year)" and "True Blue Miracle." There are also appearances by several celebrities, including Anne Murray, Leslie Uggams, and Michael Jackson.
One of the most memorable moments of the special is when Big Bird and his friend, the kind-hearted Mr. Snuffleupagus, stay up late on Christmas Eve, hoping to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus. When Santa finally does arrive, he reassures Big Bird that he doesn't need a chimney to deliver presents, and gives him a special gift to help him remember the true meaning of Christmas.
"Christmas Eve on Sesame Street" has become a beloved holiday classic, with its heartwarming message about the joy of giving and the importance of friendship.
