~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've been going thru my massive vinyl record collection these past few weeks and pulling out some LPs that I thought that someone else would want for their collection. I've been collecting records for over 45 years and it's time to pass some of them on to the next generation of collectors.
This week on Ebay we are offering up this fantastic, rare, unusual, German-only, AC/DC 12" 3-track Maxi-single.
This rare 12" German 45-rpm Maxi-single was released only in Germany, and only once, in March 1980 and has become rather scarce. A very popular and sought after record among AC/DC and heavy rock collectors.
SIDE A: 'Touch Too Much' from the 'Highway to Hell' album SIDE B: 'Live Wire'/'Shot Down In Flames' Live from 1979 European Tour
This is an exquisite, very cool, fantastic sounding, 3-track 12" single, released only in Germany. A German pressing but slightly confusing due to the French Price Code (WE 211) printed at the top. Original First Pressings have the Price Code as 'WE 211', not 'WEA 211' as on other versions.
Despite it looking French, it's a German pressing.
~~~ The 'standard' American 45-rpm single of 'Touch too Much' had 'Walk All Over You' as the B-side. The 'standard' European single had a live version of 'Live Wire' as the B-side.
Some 'special' 7" European copies had the double live combo of 'Live Wire' and 'Shot Down In Flames' on the B-side, but at 33-rpm, and with a 'compressed', bass-less, tinny sound, due to both songs crammed onto a small  7" side.
This 12" Maxi-single gives the songs room to breath and sounds absolutely amazing. The B Side is 9 minutes of some of the best sounding Live AC/DC I've ever heard.
AC/DC delivers high energy, full throttled, rock and roll versions of their classic songs 'Live Wire' and 'Shot Down In Flames.'
AC/DC were at their peak during this 'Highway to Hell'/'Back in Black', period and the 2 live songs are simply amazing and performed flawlessly. They really capture the onstage atmosphere & feel of AC/DC's aggressive, ball-bustin' live sound.
Essential for any AC/DC or hard rock vinyl collection.
~~~~ The smaller 7" version of this single, with a similar bright yellow picture sleeve, was released throughout Europe, but this larger 12" version, with a sturdy cover, a German exclusive, really 'pops' and looks terrific in a record collection along with AC/DC's other classic LPs.
The Front of this 'album' has a terrific color picture of the band live on the 1979 European Tour. Angus in all his insane school-boy glory, scooting and boogieing around the stage, and Bon Scott striking a classic pose.
Notice that the great image on the front has been 'flipped' showing everybody playing Left-handed. They're all properly playing right-handed in the terrific, overhead, Black & White picture of the band performing live on the back cover.
This 'album' was produced by Jeff "Mutt" Lange, who also produced 'Highway to Hell' and 'Back in Black', considered AC/DC's best albums.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The A Side 'Touch too Much' is a great bluesy rocker with Bon Scott growling out lyrics like "Too much on my body, too much on my brain, this damn woman's gonna drive me insane!" and "She's got the body of Venus, with arms."
"Touch Too Much" was the third and final single released from the great 'Highway to Hell' album that broke AC/DC commercially.
The A Side is great, but it's the killer double live punch on side 2 that makes this such an amazing record. Bon and the boys really get down 'n' dirty. The power and kick-ass intensity of the live tracks give no hint that the end was near for Bon Scott.
Just after this record was released, lead singer Bon Scott would suddenly die; drinking himself to death, on February 19, 1980. His hard-living Rock'n'Roll lifestyle caught up to him and he left us way too soon. He clearly 'touched too much'.
This 'single' was the last record released before Bon Scott passed away, being replaced by lead vocalist Brian Johnson, and AC/DC bouncing back with their classic 'Back in Black' album.
This was recorded with the 'Classic' line-up of the band featuring Bon Scott on vocals, crazed brothers Angus & Malcolm Young on guitars, Cliff Williams on Bass and Phil Rudd keeping the powerful drive going on Drums.
This is a fantastic AC/DC record, featuring some amazing high voltage rock with Angus Young's great lead guitar work, and Bon Scott's powerful gritty vocals.
It's essential for any hard rock or heavy metal vinyl record collection.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CONDITION: I tried to show good hi-resolution photos of the cover, labels and vinyl in my pictures.
VINYL: Generally, the vinyl looks excellent. Clean and bright, but I should point out that there is a tiny 'scuff' right at the beginning of the live B-Side. The record has long lead-in grooves and there are some 'pops & clicks' during the crowd cheering at the start, but the song is not really affected. There are also some light hairlines on the record, but the vinyl looks great otherwise.
I showed close-ups of the 'scuff' in my photos. It's not a major flaw, but should be pointed out, and takes this record from EX to VG+.
I priced it accordingly, and I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.
The Deadwax has the etched WEA first pressing, (only pressing) marks. Strangely etched over 3 lines. I've rarely seen records marked this way. I guess they had lots of 'spare' room on this 12" pressing. See the full Matrix numbers above.
I tried to show some close-up pictures of the vinyl to show how good it looks, other than the small 'scuff'. I'm sure you'll be happy with it.
I haven't messed with it or cleaned it, other than my trusty 'Disc-Washer' brush, in over 40 years. I noticed it was a little 'dusty' when I was taking pictures. It could use a good deep cleaning to make it even better looking and better sounding than it already is.
LABELS: This is pressed with the 'classic' mid-70's Atlantic Red & Green labels. It has European style German labels.
The labels are clean and bright. No marks or damage. The spindle holes are still sharp and clean, suggesting minimal playing and my careful handling over the years.
JACKET: As you can see from my pictures, this still looks great for a 40 year old OG copy. It still looks quite nice and just 'pops'.
The all black back cover is notorious for showing wear, but this copy looks great.
Some very mild, early, ring wear starting to show above 'AC/DC' on the front cover, but not bad.
There's some very minor shelf wear on some of the edges, but the great artwork is bold and bright, and the original gloss is still present. The spine is straight. A nice survivor.
This also has it's original Atlantic company inner sleeve. No slip-sheet paper insert, which some, but not all, copies had. I think the insert, written in French, was only for French market copies. This is a German pressing.
Overall, I'll call the whole record VG+. It's a beautiful copy, but the 'scuff' downgrades it.
This record has been sleeved and stored properly for decades, and is still quite nice for an original pressing. A rare German AC/DC record that doesn't turn up often.
You can see from my pictures it's still quite nice, clean, and acceptable. This copy is all original, and a real gem. I'm sure you'll love it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ** NOTE: I'm selling this rare 'Collector' record "AS IS" and "NO RETURN". It's rare and as described and I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I’m recently retired and downsizing and letting go some gems and rarities from nearly 45 years of vinyl record collecting. Check out the many other fantastic 45s and 33s coming soon to my page!
All records have been carefully evaluated and graded by me. I visually inspect all records under bright light, personally gently clean them with a soft cloth and then, if unsure, play them on a modern high-end turntable to get a true picture of condition.
Please look at all the high-resolution pictures I added. They are all my own and are of the actual record being sold. The pictures are part of the description and can show small details, label variations, and condition better than I can put into words.
My grading is fair and honest. I have had over 3,500 happy and satisfied EBay customers over the years, with 100% positive feedback, and I have been buying/selling on EBay for well over 25 years, so please bid with confidence!
I'm a 0ne-man operation, this is a hobby, not my job. I do this for fun. I do this because I love music, love collecting vinyl and want others to share in that same experience. I take my time listening, researching, grading, listing and packaging. I will NOT sell any record that I personally would not want in my collection.
As you well know, packing and shipping rare records requires special care and attention, therefore, shipping cost within the lower 48 states is $5.00 on this item. If you would like insurance, or anything faster than Media/Economy Mail, please let me know and I can arrange it for you. I’ll work with you to make sure you’re happy!
I will gladly combine multiple records, or other items on my page, and make the shipping much less for you. I don’t inflate the shipping costs; they are what they are. I strive to keep them as low as possible. See my feedback for comments on my quality packing and shipping.
