White Mansions: A tale from the American Civil War 1861-1865 is a 1978 concept album with the story of the Civil War from the point of view of the Confederacy. This really could be considered a country opera. There are four characters who tell the story in song. Characters are Polly (Jessi Colter), The Drifter (narrator - Waylon Jennings), Matthew (John Dillon) & Caleb (Steve Cash). Dillon & Cash are members of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Guest musicians include Bernie Leadon (Eagles) & Eric Clapton, among others. Some of the music sounds like it came straight from the Civil War. Like many albums, the inside sleeve has a fold in one of the corners. A 28 page booklet includes the story, song lyrics & many excellent B&W photos, some of which are shown here. This really was quite a project & unlike anything else you'll find. The album was test played all the way through - the only time it was played. The whole package is in excellent condition & is a promo copy.
