~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've been going thru my massive vinyl record collection this month and pulling out some LPs that I thought that someone else would want for their collection. I've been collecting records for over 45 years and it's time to pass some of them on to the next generation of collectors. After all, we are just temporary 'caretakers' of these musical gems until the next owner and next collection takes them in.
This week on EBay I am offering up this fantastic, clean copy of the classic Rolling Stones 'Collector' album "HAVE YOU SEEN KEEF ( STANDING IN THE SHADOWS ) ?"
I purchased this copy back in the late 70's or early 80's, nearly 50 years ago, in Greenwich Village, on one of my regular vinyl digs in the shops along St Marks place back in the day, and have taken great care of it since.
See the full description and condition of the jacket and vinyl below.
I don't recall exactly which shop, or precisely when I picked this up. My New York years are a little 'hazy' but I was buying lots of Stones vinyl and 'collector' records back in those days.
The vinyl is in fantastic shape and the sound quality is quite good for an audience recording. The sound quality on this is 'typical' of what is usually heard on these 'Collector' records.
This is pressed on the ARS label, not very well known to me as a Stones collector, but likely a local NYC outfit, one of many, that were direct competitors with TMOQ, Pig's Eye, Amazing Kornyphone, Rubber Dubber and other Collector record labels.
This was pressed, like many other Collector records at the time, with a plain white paper record label.
~~~~~ This is a great Stones 'Collector' record featuring 10 of the best songs from the May 26th, 1976 show at Earl's Court Arena in London.
A BBC News report about Keith Richard crashing his car from 5/19/76 opens B side.
Side B ends with a brief comment by Keith concerning drugs.
The text at the bottom of the back label reads "With special thanks to 'Keef the human riff' appreciation society"
~~~~~ The Rolling Stones played London’s Earls Court for six nights during the long hot summer of 1976, as part of their European tour. Originally planned as a three-night run, three extra shows were quickly added following unprecedented demand for tickets.   They played 6 shows on May 21, 22, 23, 26, and 27.
The Earls court shows were a legendary part of the Stones 1976 European tour.
By May 1976, when this run of 6 Earl's Court shows took place, the band was playing at their peak.  Keith Richards and 'new' guitarist Ronnie Wood were generally on fire, Mick Jagger's voice was great, and he joyfully danced and pranced around the stage brilliantly. The rhythm section of Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman had punch, drive and power and kept the energy and music flowing. Recently added percussionist Ollie Brown added just the right amount of soul, accent and attitude.
The band's large lotus flower-shaped stage design, phallic inflatables, and theatrics were meant for much larger stadiums and didn't quite work in the smaller arenas like Earls Court, but a smaller venue meant you got to see the band up close and Mick and the band were able to interact with the crowd much more.
Earl's Court wasn't designed for rock music and the sound at Earls Court was notoriously pretty bad with the band's powerful amps causing a lot of Echo and reverb coming off the old theater's walls, but the performances and playing were fantastic.
Mick was very 'theatric' in his delivery and Keith was famously 'toasted' and just on the edge of keeping it all together during his performances. Charlie, as usual, was tight, crisp and kept the flow going.
The result was some great classic Stones performances, playing for their home town. crowd.
On this album, Keith is generally out of it, he barely pulls off his own spotlight song 'Happy', but his playing on 'Hand of Fate' and the slow blues number 'You Gotta Move' sound especially great. Keith is in classic 'Keef' mode and he's 'elegantly wasted' and fantastic on this album. Slightly loose and sloppy, but in the best possible way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This 'Collector' record only has highlights of the May 26, 1975 show, but it captures some of the best, classic, moments of the concert.
The 10 songs on this album include:
HAND OF FATE / HEY NEGRITA AIN'T TOO PROUD TO BEG / FOOL TO CRY / HOT STUFF YOU'VE GOT TO MOVE / HAPPY TUMBLIN DICE / BROWN SUGAR / JUMPIN JACK FLASH
~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Rolling Stones, in the summer of 1976, were "The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World" and proving it night after night. Their shows personified 'sex and drugs and rock'n'roll'.
Drug and alcohol use within the band during this period was notorious and legendary. Keith was in the midst of a crippling heroin addiction. Cocaine was everywhere and flowed freely. Every shape and color of pill that you could imagine were available backstage. It was a wild & crazy tour.
Keith famously stated that "The only way to do a tour like that is to be as high as you can be and not think about anything else"
The cover photos on this album are a collection of Keith pictures taken over the years when he was at his most elegantly 'toasted'.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Overall, a fantastic LP of the best live tracks from the night of May 26, 1976 at Earl's Court.
Add this rare. classic, Rolling Stones record to your collection. It has some great songs from the '76 tour and these records hold a special place in the history of collectible Rolling Stones records.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ CONDITION: I tried to show good hi-resolution photos of the cover, labels and vinyl in my pictures.
VINYL: The vinyl is still fantastic. Clean and bright and nice thick vinyl. No obvious deep scratches, damage or dings. There is a long, but very light and superficial, hairline or scuff on side B. It looks much worse than it sounds. I doesn't affect the sound or play, but should be noted. I showed a detail of it in my last photo..
I'll call the vinyl VG+, to keep everyone happy, but you can see from my photos how terrific it looks. Other than the scuff line, much better than VG+ and nearly flawless.
I haven't messed with it or cleaned it, other than my trusty 'DiscWasher' brush, in 45 years, since Ronnie Reagan was in office. It would benefit from a good deep cleaning to make it even better looking and better sounding than it already is.
LABELS. The simple, plain white labels are clean and bright. No marks or defects. The sides are simply marked 'A' and 'B' in small letters. As typical of these collector records, no mention of the Band or song titles.
The spindle holes are still sharp and clean, suggesting minimal playing and my careful handling over the years.
JACKET: As you can see from my pictures, this still looks very nice for a nearly 50 year old OG copy.  The jacket is excellent. Clean and bright with bold color. The corners are relatively sharp, except for a slight scuff on the back upper right corner. No seam splits, no creases and no other  issues.
I've owned this record for many decades and it has been poly-line sleeved and kept in great condition.
Overall, a rare Stones record and a nice survivor. I'll call the whole record VG+ to keep everyone happy, but it's a beauty. You just don't see these anymore. It's about as good a copy of this classic release as you're likely to find.
This record has been sleeved and stored properly for decades, and is still quite nice for an original early pressing. Very nice, all original, and a real gem. I'm sure you'll love it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ** NOTE: I'm selling this rare 'Collector' record "AS IS" and "NO RETURN". It's rare and as described and I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. A great copy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I’m recently retired and downsizing and letting go some gems and rarities from nearly 45 years of vinyl record collecting. Check out the many other fantastic 45s and 33s coming soon to my page!
All records have been carefully evaluated and graded by me. I visually inspect all records under bright light, personally gently clean them with a soft cloth and then, if unsure, play them on a modern high-end turntable to get a true sense of condition.
Please look at all the high-resolution pictures I added. They are all my own and are of the actual record being sold. The pictures are part of the description and can show small details, label variations, and condition better than I can put into words.
My grading is fair and honest. I have had over 3,600 happy and satisfied EBay customers over the years, with 100% positive feedback, and I have been buying/selling on EBay for well over 25 years, so please bid with confidence!
I'm a 0ne-man operation, this is a hobby, not my job. I do this for fun. I do this because I love music, love collecting vinyl and want others to share in that same experience. I take my time listening, researching, grading, listing and packaging. I will NOT sell any record that I personally would not want in my collection.
As you well know, packing and shipping rare records requires special care and attention, therefore, shipping cost within the lower 48 states is $5.00 on this item. If you would like insurance, or anything faster than Media/Economy Mail, please let me know and I can arrange it for you. I’ll work with you to make sure you’re happy!
I will gladly combine multiple records, or other items on my page, and make the shipping much less for you. I don’t inflate the shipping costs; they are what they are. I strive to keep them as low as possible. See my feedback for comments on my quality packing and shipping.
