German rock-pop band Tokio Hotel are well known throughout Europe after the release of their debut German language album Schrei - so laut du kannst in 2006 and its follow-up in 2007 Zimmer 483. Both albums, released before the band members -- vocalist Bill Kaulitz and guitarist Tom Kaulitz bassist Georg Listing and drummer Gustav Schäfer - were 18, spawned a string of hit singles including "Durch den Monsun" ("Through the Monsoon"), "Schrei" ("Scream"), "Rette Mich" ("Rescue Me"), "Übers Ende der Welt" ("Ready, Set, Go!"), "Spring Nicht" ("Don't Jump") and "An Deiner Seite (Ich bin da)" ("By Your Side, (I Am Here)"). The band is noted for their unusually styled, effeminate frontman Bill Kaulitz, who has adopted an emo-goth/'Visual Kei' look, wearing dark eyeliner and makeup, Gothic jewellery, black jackets with spiky, dyed black and white hair.

Tokio Hotel released their first English language single, a double A-side with "Scream" and "Ready, Set Go!" in the US in September 2007 making it available exclusively at Hot Topic clothing stores throughout the US. Their US debut album Scream came out early in 2008.

Their fourth album Humanoid came out in October of 2009, in both German and English. Accompanying this CD was the Welcome to Humanoid City tour, and the release of Humanoid City Live earlier in 2010.
