This auction is for a Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs (MFSL) "The Beatles - The Collection" 14-LP Box Set in excellent condititon. I believe that these MFSL sets were produced in two runs of 25,000 each, beginning in 1982, for a total of 50,000 sets worldwide. The set for sale here was part of the first run, as the "Certificate of Authenticity" (located inside the front cover of the "Artbook") shows that it is number 17,537. These sets were pressed in Japan on virgin, 180-gram vinyl. The vinyl is so pure that if you hold it up to a bright light you can actually see through it.

The outer box of this set has some minor shelfwear along the edges, most noticeable on the upper corner of the lefthand "door" (see the closeup image of that part), but overall it is in very good shape. The hinges and latch show only light oxidation, and all of them work well. 

The outer white cover of the "Artbook", featuring the cover art of all of the 14 albums, has some creasing, but the book itself is in great shape. The Geodisc is also in excellent condition, and it still has its cardboard sleeve. 

The real story of this set is the amazing condition of the LPs themselves. They have only been played THREE TIMES in the 33 years since they were manufactured, and each time was on a high-quality turntable/cartridge setup. I purchased this set from the original owner a couple of years ago as a "back-up" for one that I already owned. The seller reported that he played the entire set once to transfer it to reel-to-reel tapes, a second time to transfer it to cassette tapes, and a final time to transfer it to digital format. Since I already owned one of these sets when I purchased this one, I have never felt the need to play it myself. Because of that, it has still only been played 3 times. 

I examined both sides of all 14 discs under a bright light, and could find NO scuffs or scratches on any of them. I did not see a single mark on the playing surface of any of the LPs. It is obvious that they were handled with great care by the original owner on the very few times that they were actually played.  I think that you would have a hard time finding a used set of these LPs with discs in better shape than this one, and I believe that the new owner will be very pleased with it.
