Jeff Beer, just turned 18, formed a 3-members band called Elastic Grasp, after meet Rob Terstall he invited him to join the band on guitar, the rest of the band were amateur musicians.  Elastic Grasp last short time, due to musical differences with the rest of the band. Beer and Terstall decide to form a new band, a professional one this time.

Terstall were playing before meet Jeff Beer in a Krautrock band named Honest Truth, with a well rehearsed team of UK musicians, who wre living in Germany by that time, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Stuart Fordham. Honest Truth was a very unlucky band, as the original organist dies and the equipment was stolen. After that Brown / Fordham have returned to England.

Terstall, with his new music partner, the still teenager Beer (8 years younger), convinced the UK team to return to Germany and start playing together. After an initial and successful test phase in Schweinfurt, the four musicians get ready for their new start and take up residence in the countryside, in the small village of Gaukönigshofen, in the summer of 1971. The new band was named Odin.

Odin, then was formed then by people with good musical education or enough expertise in music.

Jeff Beer, who at early age started as guitarist doing his own stuff playing Hendrix / Clapton style solos, at the age of 16, around 1969, he changes for the large Hammond Organ and he gets people attention with his Nice and Jimmy Smith interpretations. Bela Bartok, Igor Stravinsky and Frank Zappa were his role models at that time

Rob Terstall did receive classical education and studied guitar for 3 years in Amsterdam.

Ray Brown’s career as a musician started in the 1960s, in one of the numerous white soul bands.

Stuart Fordham was a well-known studio and session drummer in London, and did tour with the Walker Brothers and others. (rateyourmusic.com)
