What Beatles were for Rock’n’Roll in general, and British Invasion in particular, what Otis Redding was for Soul, what James Brown is for Funk and what Bob Dylan is for singers/songwriters of all kinds, THE FLAMINGOS were for doo-wop and vocal group sound of the late 1950’s. If you are only familiar with one of their songs - their classic mega-hit "I only have eyes for you" from 1958, you are missing A LOT - and doing this awesome group a great, grave injustice. If you think that the Byrds, Beach Boys or Everly Brothers could sing, well --- you are right, but --- wait until you hear THIS!!! Starting with the 1955’s much loved (and still reigning) doo-wop anthem "Golden Teardrops" and on through the years, THE FLAMINGOS created some of the most heavenly vocal harmonies known to the human ear (and brain). Any of their albums - whether on "CHECKER" or on George Goldner’s "END" label is highly collectable and much sought. This is their third - AND BY FAR THE VERY BEST - album from their golden "END" era, which came out in 1960 and includes some of the most impressive and dramatic vocal pirouettes known to humankind. If you remain indifferent after hearing the band's versions of "You'll never walk alone" and "Everybody's got a home (but me)", check your pulse!!! Frankly, I don’t know which song from the album should be - or could be - singled out. They all simply sparkle. One gem after another, after another. This is a must-have for any serious collector of the vocal group music of the 1950s and 1960s and a soothing balm of celestial harmonies, the kind of music which is no longer being made or heard. This is a rare chance to own this great album in its ultimate, primordial, original form. The album includes a song specifically written for them by Sam Cooke ("Nobody Loves me like you"). Track listing: In the still of the night - Beside you - When I fall in love - You, me and the sea - Everybody's got a home (but me) - Nobody loves me like you - Tenderly - I was such a fool - Every time I think of you - At night - You'll never walk alone…

·                               CONDITION:

·                               RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant). For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its FAKE ("electronically rechannelled") stereo counterpart. We estimate that FAKE stereo copies of this album outnumber monos by a ratio of at least 10:1.

(d)          True Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist (only compact disc versions are in true stereo).

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some writing on its back side (initials of the previous owner written in blue ballpoint pen, about ½ x 2 inches in size)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging  (nothing significant).

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)

-         Cover has some fraying/wear along the upper seam   (nothing significant)

-         Cover has three corners slightly worn / dinged /(nothing significant)

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the opening side (nothing significant)

-         The cover has a distinct pressure-type embossed 'ex libris' stamp on the back panel (must be viewed under certain angle to notice)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No split seams  (yet).

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
