Artist or Band The Beatles
Album/Single Title: Let It Be
Producer(s): George Martin
Cat Number R 5833
Label/Format: Apple
Country Of Manufacture: UK
Original Year Of Release: 14th March 1970
Rarity: Fairly Rare as only Original first pressings come in a Picture Sleeve and in the runout grooves have APPLES 1002 A-1 stamped on the B-Side which has been crossed out and replaced with the new code. Subsequent pressings only had the matrix number 7YCE 21408-10. This happened because Apples 1002 was scheduled for release on the 5th Dec 1969. It would have been, "You Know My Name"/"What's The New Mary Jane" by The Plastic Ono Band but was cancelled. Stampers had already been prepared so were Used for this release. This also has the KT tax code etched into the runout grooves. This is considered the LAST single sanctioned by all four Beatles.
Track List:
Side 1: Let It Be
Side 2: You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)

Brief Artist & Album Info: "Let It Be" is a song by The Beatles, released in March 1970 as a single, and (in an alternate mix) as the title track of their album "Let It Be". At the time, it had the highest debut on the Billboard Hot 100, beginning its chart run at number 6. It was written and sung by Paul McCartney. It was their final single before McCartney announced his departure from the band. Both the "Let It Be album" and the US single "The Long and Winding Road" were released after McCartney's announced departure from and the subsequent break-up of the group. The alternate mix on their album Let It Be features an additional guitar solo and some minor differences in the orchestral sections.
McCartney said he had the idea of "Let It Be" after he had a dream about his mother during the tense period surrounding the sessions for The Beatles ("The White Album") in 1968. According to McCartney, the song's reference to "Mother Mary" was not biblical. The phrase has at times been used as a reference to the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, McCartney explained that his mother who died of cancer when he was fourteen, was the inspiration for the "Mother Mary" lyric. He later said: "It was great to visit with her again. I felt very blessed to have that dream. So that got me writing 'Let It Be'." He also said in a later interview about the dream that his mother had told him, "It will be alright, just Let It Be." When asked if the song referred to the Virgin Mary, McCartney has typically answered the question by assuring his fans that they can interpret the song however they like.
The single used the same cover photographs as the "Let It Be" album, and was originally released on 6 March 1970, backed by "You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)", with a production credit for George Martin. This version includes orchestration and backing vocals overdubbed on 4 January 1970, under the supervision of Martin and McCartney, with backing vocals that included the only known contribution by Linda McCartney to a Beatles song. It was during this same session that Harrison recorded the second overdubbed guitar solo. The intention at one point was to have the two overdub solos playing together. This idea was dropped for the final mix of the single, and only the 30 April solo was used, although the 4 January overdub can be heard faintly during the final verse. Martin mixed the orchestration very low in this version.
I CONDITION:
Labels: The Apple Labels are both in Superb condition with Only a couple of Very light Spindle marks to be seen (these are ONLY noticable when held up to a bright light. No more than 3-4 on Both sides). There is no Writing, Marks or Lifts anywhere. You would be Very hard pressed to find a Significantly better set than these. I have no hesitation in Grading these as Excellent!!!!
Vinyl: Plays throughout absolutely brilliant, with no Pops or Jumps. though there are 4 very light Clicks at the beginning. The record still contains that glossy sheen though there are several surface marks and thumbnails to be seen; these in NO way interfere with the superb sound quality. This Single plays up to and beyond its high visual grading with hardly anything of note to fault. It offers strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear. The sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. A typical polished production from George Martin. There is Minimal surface sound and No tracking issues. This play-grade proved a real pleasure when playing this fast disappearing single, this being the first example I have had for some time, and possibly the best all-round one for me yet. It will prove quite difficult to find a significantly better copy and merits a very strong recommendation. I would grade both sides as Excellent!!!!
Cover/Sleeve: The Matt Sleeve is of a flip-back type set in the Same style as the Album cover. The sleeve has no Writing, Splits, Tears or Rips anywhere. The Two flipbacks are in place and Not lifted. Now for the Downside all Four corners are slightly Knocked. The Black on the edges (mainly the bottom) has Faded and White is showing through. There is also a slight Crease showing on the left hand side of the back and a Record Indentation where the single has sat in the sleeve (mainly noticable from the back). This cover is incredibly difficult to find in Ex+ condition simply because of the design and age. However I would be happy enough to grade it as Very Good+/+!!!!
Cover/Sleeve Summary: Not seen often, this one is in Nice condition with only gentle clues of age, any blemishes mostly light are to be expected. This classic Sleeve (as described) should please many collectors.
Album/Sleeve Played For Grading: I play/grade ALL records I offer before submitting, I also play them in their entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness ? I play from the beginning to end. I use a Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge and Linn Lingo, with my Linn system and Forest Totem Speakers. This system is guaranteed to pick up any distortion or interference within the sound.
Grading: In my opinion I REFUSE to believe that there is ANY record that can be truly graded as Mint; the BEST that could be offered is Mint- (minus)!!!! Especially so from the 50's, 60's, 70's or even up to the present date!!!! Even copies bought new today would have some form of imperfection on the Record or Cover!!!! Under that assumption I will NEVER use the word Mint in any of my descriptions and Mint- is the HIGHEST grade I would ever offer. So I will only from Excellent, Good or Poor with a -(minus), +(plus) or ++(plus, plus)!!!!
Bid With Confidence: take great care and pride with what I list and offer a FULL money back guarantee, in the unlikely event of the buyer not agreeing with my description. As long as the item is repacked and returned to me in the same condition it was sent.
Postage: All of my records will be professionally packaged. I use Dependapack Vinyl Record Mailers that have locking tab closures with strong locking tab record wraps. I also use corrugated record stiffeners and extra strong tape marked with Handle With Care. This is to ensure your Valuable Record/s are protected whilst in transit. I will add a nominal fee of .40p to my postage and packaging for this service. Any Record valued at £100 or more I would prefer to send by Special Deliver/International Signed For.
