On offer here is a copy of the mega-rare UK original very first pressing of Black Sabbath's debut album from 1970. Vertigo swirl labels with Philips-credit! Vertigo VO 6. Very first pressing sleeve and original swirl inner bag.

Record: VG

Vinyl has some light marks and scuffs from general wear. Numerous light hairlines from removing the record from the inner sleeve. No huge or deep scratches. Plays with background crackle in more quiet parts.

Please note! The track "N.I.B." has a pressing issue. A tiny bit of paper (2 x 1 millimeters) have got stucked into the vinyl surface at the time of pressing. I have played the record on four different turntables. On three of them the pressing issue causes a handful loud clicks but plays through nicely. When played on the fourth turntable, however, the pressing issue caused a skip. Whether there will be clicks or a skip obviously depends on conditions such as the adjustments of the turntable, the pickup, the tonearm etc. Please keep this in mind before bidding on this record.

Very first pressing labels with large swirl on side 2 and "A Philips Record Product" printed at the bottom.

The labels have numerous light spindle marks, but no writing or stickers.

Matrix numbers:

V O 6   1Y * 1   420   1 2 5

V O 6   2Y * 1   420   1 2 5

Sleeve: VG+

The sleeve, designed and photographed by the legendary Keef, is the very first issue with misprint "Copyright subsists in all Stereo recordings", and the name of the bandmembers written in capital letters throughout. Ozzy's name is wrongly spelt "OSSIE". These misprints where corrected on later pressings.

There is no ringwear, nor any faded colors. The sleeve is clean and nice. There is a monogram written in black on the upper right corner of the back sleeve, and there is a 5 cm wear/split at the bottom seam. The spine is straight and fully readable, but it has a 2 cm damage from wear at the middle. Please see the pictures!

Records are graded very conservatively, and inspections are done under a strong halogen lamp. I follow the Record Collector grading system.

Record cleaning and playing

All my records are carefully cleaned using a professional Loricraft PRC 6 record cleaning machine for superior sound and supreme vinyl preservation. After cleaning the record is put in a brand new lined inner sleeve. Of course, the original inner sleeve is always included if existing.

The amount of surface noise, crackle etc depends on the condition of the record, but also on the kind of equipment used. This record has been graded using an extremely revealing top quality high end system. Turntable: Brinkmann Balance. Tonearm: Thales Simplicity. Cartridge: Lyra Atlas SL, tracking at 1.72 grams.
