John Fred and his Playboy Band didn't know what was about to hit when they released their third lp. Using a tacky marching band cover was no way to sell lps in the "Summer of Love". The single 'Judy in Disguise (With Glasses)' became a monster number one U.S. hit record. Horns blairing, string section on mary jane and John panting into the microphone like he was having sex in the vocal booth must have shocked a nation, instead it drove kids nutso, running to record shops to buy a slice. The rest of the album isn't bad at all. Typical horn driven rockers ala. American Breed, Buckinghams, and Ides of March. A few blues inspired tracks as well but mainly aimed at the pre-teens. A great lp to own.

 

Paula staff became exhausted placing promotional stickers on the ugly jackets and asked John & co. to redesign a new "psychedelic" cover. Since John's song was inspired by mishearing the lyrics to 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds', John's idea was a drawing of a chick with giant psych shades!

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

 

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER IS NEAR MINT, STILL SEALED AND COVERED IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP  (A SMALL PIECE OF SHRINK WRAP IS MISSING)

 

(PLEASE NOTE: THE SHRINK WRAP HAS SEPARATED ALONG ABOUT 40% OF THE OPENING SIDE, BUT THE ALBUM IS STILL VISIBLY SEALED)

 

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

 

-         Visible shelf wear noted on the bottom seam

 

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine (nothing significant)

 

-         Cover has one corner slightly worn (BARELY VISIBLE)

 

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.  (BARELY VISIBLE)
