THIS IS A DOUBLE ALBUM.... RARE & ORIGINAL.
NEIL ARDLEY/ IAN CARR/ MIKE GIBBS/ STAN TRACEY Will Power - A Shakespeare Birthday Celebration In Music (Rare original 1975 UK 8-track double vinyl LP on Argo), a Shakespeare tercentenary live tribute recorded at Southwark Cathedral on April 27th,1974 in association with the Arts Council. Features a set of ambitious ensemble pieces that highlight the progressive nature of jazz in Britain at the time, including flourishes of electronics, vocals from Norma Winstone plus top class musicianship from Gordon Beck, Tony Coe, Tony Levin, Kenny Wheeler and more, laminated gatefold picture sleeve. Review: "You may be wary of this vinyl. Is it a one-off live event rather than something worth putting on record? Is it going to be a rather precious & cod-theatrical homage to the Bard? Is there lots of "jazz poetry"? Well, cast your reservations aside. This is absolutely brilliant. The music has continuity because it's all played by one medium-sized ensemble - a dozen or so of the best musicians of that period with Norma Winstone & Pepi Lemer on vocals (it's particularly good to hear Kenny Wheeler's trumpet alongside Stan Tracey's piano for much of the album). But each substantial 20+ minute section is composed, arranged & led by one of the great British Jazz figures of the era: Mike Gibbs, Neil Ardley, Stan Tracey and Ian Carr - it's a veritable summit meeting. In retrospect this album is the culmination (and almost a requiem) for the classic period of British Modern Jazz 65-75."
Cover condition is as per pictures.

Any ‘ring’ marks, inscription, writing, bumps, scuffs, creases, edge wear, rubbing, old price stickers (or residue) etc...or any other imperfections will be on the images. The Seam may be split but nothing that a glue stick won't fix. (If the seam is split, it will be shown on the images.)

Vinyls appear to be in EXCELLENT condition, in fact they look hardly played.

Many more vinyls of varying genres on offer in other listings. Happy to combine postage where possible depending on overall weight. Please send me a message for an accurate postage quote for multiple purchases.

Please wait for an invoice before you make payment if multi purchasing.

I do my very best to describe accurately, fairly and to the best of my ability but please bear in mind that I am not a 'professional'. Please also see pictures which form part of the description (and which will show any marks, creases, bumps etc... particularly on the covers). My camera is so sensitive that it picks up every speck of dust... particularly on the vinyl which has occurred from being in storage. If you are at all uncertain of anything please send me a message before you bid. Most of these vinyls have come from dry, clean, heated storage but I would advise a wipe over/clean prior to playing as some may be a little dusty.

Any questions...please ask!
