We may have recently lost the great Steven Sondheim (1930-2021), but available here is a NM copy of a classic original Broadway cast LP with music and lyrics by Sondheim: "Sunday In The Park With George", a 1984 release on RCA Red Seal Digital (HBC1-5042).  If you are looking for an excellent copy of this LP and accompanying libretto, consider this one.  It is in tremendous all-around condition.

American Steven Sondheim was one of the most important figures in 20th-century musical theater. Sondheim has been praised for having “reinvented the American musical with shows that tackle "unexpected themes that range far beyond the genre's traditional subjects" with "music and lyrics of unprecedented complexity and sophistication".

"Sunday in the Park with George" is a musical  (starring Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin) with music and lyrics by Sondheim and book by James Lapine. It was inspired by the French pointillist painter Georges Seurat's painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. The plot revolves around George, a fictionalized version of Seurat, who immerses himself deeply in painting his masterpiece, and his great-grandson (also named George), a conflicted and cynical contemporary artist. The Broadway production opened in 1984, the year this LP was released.

The musical won the 1985 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, two Tony Awards for design (and a nomination for Best Musical), numerous Drama Desk Awards, the 1991 Olivier Award for Best Musical and the 2007 Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production. It has enjoyed several major revivals, including the 2005–06 UK production first presented at the Menier Chocolate Factory, its subsequent 2008 Broadway transfer, and a 2017 Broadway revival.

This vinyl is in tremendous, glossy condition, NM with no visible markings. The gatefold cover is in great condition, no seam splits, minor wear, clean inside and out.  Both labels are clean and complete. Also included is a fantastic, full-size 20-page libretto, with photos, lyrics, etc. It is 100% clean with no writing, rips, dog-ears or stains.
