On offer here the now Quite Rare and Double-Prize Winning (Classical Album and Recorded Sound) Karl Bohm interpretation of Haydn's last and greatest secular oratorio "The Seasons" premiered in 1801. Perfect array of vocal soloists ideal for this material plus the incomparable Wiener Singverein as chorus. Karl Bohm captured on superlative DGG stereo sound at the very peak of his insightful, incisive, and deeply spirited conducting genius for this repertoire. Penguin Guide concurs: "Bohm's performance enters totally into the spirit of the music. The soloists are excellent and characterize the music fully; the chorus sing enthusiastically and are well-recorded." A reference recording for this most daring and innovative of Haydn's large-scale vocal works, foreshadowing the emergence of early Romanticism and nature worship in sound. This set, Record Serial Numbers 139254 A, 139255 A, and 139256 A, dates from 1967 and qualifies as the original First German Edition commercialized at that date. DGG Blue and White Tulip labels on all three disks. Deadwax on all disks mechanically stamped 1967 and 104940, 104941, and 104942 indicating early Edition and Pressings from the original masters. Visual inspection of all disks under bright light shows that each one retains lustrous, high-gloss vinyl sheen on all sides. Every disk here appears flawless and little played, appearing as easily Near-Mint. (Play Grading of each disk happily provided upon request.) Heavy-weight, cloth-covered Box is Near-Mint as well with seams fully intact all round, very slight discoloration front face top, and one small blemish on right spine. Cover still glossy. No Scuffing. Not a Cut-Out. Inner plastic-lined paper record sleeves of the era appear originals. Large liner note illustrated booklet and full libretto printed on heavy-gauge paper in pristine condition. This is a superlative, collectible copy of the entire ensemble.
