“Pretty Please”

Media Grading: Strong VG [some mild superficial scuffing thru out both sides but playback is strong with “Pretty Please” in the VG+ range]

[NuGroove Vinyl Club’s Completely Superfluous and Mainly Irrelevant Thoughts/Notes on Release]

Formerly slept-on sweet heat from Chicago’s Thomas label.

The a-side is a pretty confident, moody and fun funk cut but the sweetly sublime and soulful “Pretty Please” is probably the choice side for most here, with it being an absolute crowd pleaser and the perfect soundtrack for heading up to the steakhouse with the crew, hair slick back, ready to dump a glass of water on a big ole piece of beef.

It’s one of those tunes that you are not surprised one bit when it catches the ear of a top-talent musical directer working in film or television, which is what happened, with “Pretty Please” being featured in Tim Robinson’s “I Think You Should Leave.”  Which, if you don’t know, is a currently-airing sketch comedy tv/streaming show that is objectively the funniest sketch show since SCTV (Key and Peele deserves a shoutout too but, IDK dude, “ITYSL” has slight lead over “K&P” for me).

“ITYSL” is of course the nightmare spawn of Detroit native Tim Robinson, a real hometown hero of ours. We are not just music nerds here at New Groove Vinyl Club, we are also comedy nerds too. And, yes, that is as lame and insufferable as it sounds.

But, in fact, we are such a fan of Mr. Robinson’s work, we have nominated him this year for membership into the “New Groove Vinyl Club Detroit Hall of Fame.” Other nominees up this year include such luminaries as George “The Animal” Steele, whoever did the voice over work on Mr. Allan commercials, the digital special effects team behind the designing and animating of personal injury lawyer Joumana Kayruzz, and that one idiot that threw a beer at Ron Artest.

Grading, Shipping and Returns

I try to grade conservatively and I adapt this conservative approach to Goldmine Standards but I do use EX and VG- when needed because I feel Goldmine grading is not descriptive enough compared to any other grading system and not always descriptive enough.  NM basically looks and sounds like a mint album while EX would look like a mint or near mint album with maybe one superficial mark or light scuff/hairline or the briefest lightest spot of surface noise or one or two light pops thru both sides.  I also try to provide well-recorded audio samples of the exact item for sale.  You can hear the grade before buying but I promise you won't be disappointed.

When shipping, I use new professional LP or 45 mailers along with sturdy inserts.  Every item will come in a clear plastic outer sleeve, the media will be removed from the sleeve and any included inner sleeve and placed into a new white inner sleeve to prevent seam splits.
