Toe Fat were formed in June 1969 by ex-Rebel Rousers vocalist Cliff Bennett following The dissolution ofHIS Cliff Bennettband which had briefly included ex-Gods guitarist Ken Hensley. With HIS newly-grown beard and LONG HAIRTheHEAVY progressive outfitToe Fat with other ex-Gods members Lee Kerslake (drums), and John Konas (bass).
Armed with A batch ofTheband secured an American deal with RareEARTHRecords , Tamla Motown's 'progressive' label, andRecorded their self-titled debutlp (Rare EARTH RS511) in 1970. In The UK, TheParlophone (PCS 7097) who also releasedThe single 'Working Nights'/'BadSide Of TheMOON ' (R5829),The B-side being an early Elton John composition.
However, despite Two American tours, OneThe Dominoes, shortly afterThelp 's release both Hensley and Kerslake left, Hensley goingOnTo shapeUriah Heep and Kerslake joining The National Headband before joining himselfUriah Heep .
Another ex-Gods member John Glasscock had already by this Time replaced Konas (who now runs AMUSIC shop in Ontario) and another ex-Gods member Brian Glasscok was drafted inTo replace Kerslake (who ironically had replaced him inTHE GODS !) and guitarist Alan Kendall came inTo replace Hensley.
This revamped Toe Fat line up cut “ Toe FatEARTH RS 525/Regal Zonophone SLRZ 1015)Thelp being produced by DJ JohnPEEL (Toe Fat havingRecorded BBC sessions FORThe likesof Dave Cash, Mike Harding and Terry Wogan!).
They also released The single 'Brand New bandLiveWithoutYou ' (chaptersOne CH 175) but following another, more financially successful, USTourThe band broke up when their management and record company said they could no longer fundThe group.
Cliff Bennett then formed Rebellion, releasing One self-titled lpOnCBS , before joining MickGreen in Shanghai in 1974 and then retiringFromTheMUSIC industry before returning FOR Sixties revival shows withThe Rebel Rousers.
John Glasscock joined Carmen in 1976 as well as working with The likes ofThe Bee Gees (along with Kendall) before becomingA founder memberofThe motels. (greenowl2/redtelephone66.com)
