ELVIS PRESLEY "SINGER PRESENTS ELVIS SINGING 'FLAMING STAR' & OTHERS" Early pressing from 10/1968 only available by mail order & in Singer Sewing Machine stores (RCA) PRS-279 M-/M-. Featuring "Tiger Man" from the 1968 Comeback Special plus "Brown Eyed Handsome Man"+ 7 more rarities. Still in original shrink wrap.

Elvis' movie career was grinding to s halt after such duds as "Double Trouble", "Clambake" & "Harum Scarum" failed to make any impact at the box office. So, Elvis & the Colonel decided that he would start over with a TV Special followed by a return to live performances for the first time in nearly eight years. The Singer Sewing Machine Co. signed on as sponsor of what has become known as the "'68 Comeback Special". It was taped in June but didn't air until December, 1968. As an advance promotion for the show, RCA put together an LP of unreleased & out of print material sold by mail-order or through Singer outlets in October, 1968. "Flaming Star" from the 1960 film had been available briefly on a 1961 EP titled "Elvis By Request". Other songs that had been cut from "Viva Las Vegas", "Easy Come Easy Go", "Stay Away Joe" & "Live A Little, Love A Little" were rescued from obscurity but the highlights of the set were a rocking take of Chuck Berry's "Too Much Monkey Business" featuring Jerry Reed on guitar & "Tiger Man" from the "Comeback Special" itself but not available elsewhere. This song goes back to the Sun era- written by Joe Hill Lewis but popularized by Rufus Thomas. It was rumored that it would be Elvis' 6th Sun single but the RCA deal curtailed those plans in 1955. This LP was re-released on RCA Camden in March, 1969 with the same cover & contents but with a different catalog number (CAS-2304) & blue labels instead of beige. This is the original pressing from Singer that was only available for 6 months from October, 1968 until March, 1969.
