ELVIS PRESLEY "ELVIS/'68 COMEBACK" Original pressing from 1968 still in original shrink wrap. (RCA) LPM-4088 VG+/VG+. Featuring "If I Can Dream", "Memories" & many other classis from Elvis' career.
Elvis' movie career was grinding to s halt after such duds as "Double Trouble", "Clambake" & "Harum Scarum" failed to make any impact at the box office. So, Elvis & the Colonel decided that he would start over with a TV Special followed by a return to live performances for the first time in nearly eight years. The Singer Sewing Machine Co. signed on as sponsor of what has become known as the "'68 Comeback Special". It was taped in June but didn't air until December, 1968. Steve Binder known for "The Tami Show" & the "Hullaballoo" TV show was brought in as director of what was to be a series of Christmas songs. The concept son evolved into a snapshot of Elvis' career from his gospel roots , his early rock & roll hits, his interest in karate even representing highlights of the movie years. The inclusion pf "Blue Christmas" appeased the Colonel about his original concept of the special but a strong closer was needed & a new song written specifically for the occasion certainly filled the bill. Elvis' dramatic rendition of the poignant ballad "If I Can Dream" proved once & for all that he was truly the "King". One of the most effective segments of the show was Elvis' performing "live" inside a boxing ring- the first time he had sung before an audience (except for two post-Army concerts in Memphis & Honolulu) since 1958. This is the original pressing from 1968 (still in the original shrink wrap), recorded in mono except for 3 tracks (*).
