Starting another sale run of Great, Original, Mercury Living Presence Stereo albums, on offer here is the Famous and Celebrated 1959 performance of the majestic Schumann Symphony No. 3 (The Rhenish) by Paul Paray at the head of the once magnificent Detroit Symphony Orchestra. This notable conductor and ensemble were crucial to the radiant early stereo recordings of the Mercury Co. Their massed playing here is simply awesome and magnificent as Schumann unspools a sonic traversal of the mighty Rhine River from its mountain source to the North Sea. Brilliant, Romantic Era symphonic excess and all perfectly recorded and transmitted. And this great score is revealed to best advantage by original Mercury Living Presence Stereo Sonics--then and always an order of magnitude better than any other stereo vinyl recordings of the era (1959). And all this on the Original Mercury Living Presence Stereo disk, Serial No. SR 90133 with Earliest Pressings. Disk deadwax machine stamped FR 2 (Side 1) and FR 2 (Side 2) indicating coveted First Edition and Early Pressings. Disk is in remarkably fine condition. Close visual inspection under bright light shows no imperfections at all and retention of the highest gloss sheen on both sides. Appears very little played. Play grading shows bright, brilliant, full-spectrum sound typical of superior and superb Mercury recording and processing techniques of the era. Disk easily rates to Near-Mint. Interior, audiophile plastic sleeve in Near-Mint condition. Jacket also Near-Mint presenting glossy front and fully intact rear and seams. Not a Cut-Out. Appears as if printed yesterday. Thus a highly collectible exemplar of one of Paray's and the Detroiters' very best historic recordings via early Mercury Stereo showcasing their individual and collective, exemplary virtuosity.
