The spotlight this month falls on “cool hand” Oscar Brown Jr revered by UK MOD’s for his landmark 1960 LP Sin And Soul, from which we draw the MOD and civil rights anthem “Work Song”. We also feature the first 7-inch reissue of Brown’s self-penned and original recording of the Northern Soul classic “The Snake”. Brown’s jazz/soul workout from ’63 is the definitive version of the song popularized in the early seventies by Al Wilson. But, let’s not forget our big-ticket rarities and in-demand sounds from Helen Troy and Frances Burnett and the proto-soul floor-shaker “It Hurts Too Much To Cry” by Mr H B Barnum.
