This is The Beatles White Album original 1968 first issue 2 LP in Vinyl, gatefold sleeve, issue no: 0060315. It is a rare 1968 UK 1st mono pressing in very good condition.

Cat num - PMC7067 and 7068

Matrix - YEX709-1, YEX710-2, YEX711-1, YEX712-1. there is very slight scuffing here and there (inaudible) however the vinyl is very shiny.

The sleeve itself has is in great condition and the spine printing (very small and faint) is perfectly readable. There are 4 very faint biro words on inner left top left corner.

The disks are still in original black dust covers. The centre labels are in excellent condition and there is very little signs of wear to spindle holes.

There are 4 or 5 surface scratches on the discs which can be heard as faint clicks on 2 tracks. esp. beginning of ‘Revolution no.9’. However this does not detract at all from the playability of all 4 sides.

 -No poster is included.

According to the Internet Beatles fans have spotted differences between the mono version and the later stereo pressing: for example:

Back In The U.S.S.R. The airplane overdubs occur in different places on the mono and stereo versions. The Mono version has louder piano, a yell after the opening plane sound, and drumbeats under the closing plane sound.

Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da - On the mono mix, Paul’s vocals are not double-tracked

Piggies - The guitar is louder in the mono version.

Don’t Pass Me By - The mono version is much faster than the stereo, and therefore is shorter.

Long, Long, Long - In the mono, George’s double-tracked vocal is embarrassingly out of synch.

Honey Pie - The stereo version has a shorter guitar solo than the mono version.

Revolution [2] - Mono version sounds more disorted and compressed, it’s better! John’s guitar also sounds louder in mono version.

Yer Blues - The Mono version is 11 seconds longer, long fade.

Happiness Is A Warm Gun - Mono has laughter near the very end, just before the last drumbeat.

Honey Pie - Mono has the full lead guitar break, slightly shortened in the stereo pressing.

Savoy Truffle - Mono has sound effects during the instrumental break, and the lead guitar continues through the break into the refrain after it.

Other people have commented on the stereo flaws, for instance:

The first issue mono is a whole different ball game though. It is full sounding with a nice, natural warmth. It’s not at all two-dimensional, and has nice body and scale. Of course, it is mono and does not have much image width, but it still has the better spatial presentation.

If you want to really hear The White Album you need to hear this version. Of course, the only problem is finding one. First, you have to be aware that all monos are not first issue, the cover should be top loading with a very Dark Green Apple and the numbers PMC 7067 and PMC 7068 on them.

On eBay, these go for up to $700.”
