VERY EARLY MATRIX NUMBERS

STUNNING EXCELLENT CONDITION !!

It was correctly anticipated that this LP would be a big seller, there were around thirteen UK First Pressings/First Issues of THE WALL. As the metal master tapes (mothers) deteriorated, they were replaced by second generation master tapes. The earlier the mother matrix number, the better it is reputed to be the recording.

This ALBUM is among the very first weeks pressing taken from the first generation master tapes.

The very First UK Issues of The Wall are also characterised by the following features:

Cover Sticker:

· Issued with a transparent sticker on the front cover that says (in black Scarfe lettering): "Pink Floyd The Wall."

Front Cover:

· The Wall is cream coloured, not white like later issues, with the bricks outlined in purple.

· The bricks on the front and back cover are not aligned right to the bottom of the cover.

Back Cover:

· There is no BARCODE on the back cover.

Inside Cover:

· The credits on the inside cover do not list the members of Pink Floyd. It only says "Words and Music - Roger Waters."

· Inside cover “Produced by” credits are for David Gilmour, Bob Ezrin & Roger Waters. Later pressings have Roger Waters listed first.

Inner Sleeves:

· Heavy cardboard inner sleeves with rounded corners and a nine-inch thumb notch. Inside of inner sleeves are light brown - later pressings were white inside

Picture label:

· Text around the top edge of the label on Sides 1 + 4 starts at 9 o'clock, Side 2 + 3 starts at 7 o'clock and says:

“All rights of the manufacturer and of the owner of the recorded work reserved. Unauthorized public performance, broadcasting and copying of this record prohibited. Made in Great Britain. EMI Records (U.K.)”

· Darker blue background to the label than later pressings.

· Thicker vinyl than later pressings.

There are two 1st pressing sleeve variants:

1. A single sheet of wrap-around cardboard with the seam across the inner top edge of the cover.
2. Two sheets of cardboard, with seams at the top and bottom of the cover. Cardboard is heavy thickness.

There are two 1st pressing lyric inner sleeve variants (Both are on thick card with rounded corners and a nine-inch thumb notch at the top):

1. Sides 2 and 4 have the catalog number of the specific record listed on a single line in the lower right corner.
2. Sides 2 and 4 have the catalog number (SHDW 411), pressing number (OC-158 63410), and the record number (SHSP 4111) in the lower right corner.

Three different catalog numbers, one for the album and one for each disc:

SHDW 411 = album
OC-15863410 SHSP 4111 = disc 1
OC-15863411 SHSP 4112 = disc 2

THE UK SALES OF THIS ALBUM WERE IN FACT FAR GREATER THAN EXPECTED AMASSING SALES OF OVER 600,000 UNITS UP TO 2013. TO MEET DEMAND IT WAS REISSUED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER IT'S FIRST RELEASE, WITH WAFER THIN VINYL LOWER QUALITY INNERS, ETC . THIS ORIGINAL 1st ISSUE EXAMPLE WAS MADE WITH THICKER VINYL AND MATERIALS THAN THE LATER ISSUES.
