Dave Brubeck Quartet -
TIME OUT -
Columbia CS-8192 –
6-eye Original

One of the finest jazz albums ever produced, TIME OUT is just plain fun on so many levels, but especially with its experiments in musical time signatures.

Try THREE TO GET READY and listen for the shift, so effortlessly, as the quartet bounces between 3- and 4- time, two bars each. And, of course, TAKE FIVE, as the liner notes so rightfully point out, is simply "the most defiant time signature in all music." (Yes, Paul Desmond's lyricism on sax cannot be denied, very sweet, but don't miss Joe Morello's drum solo, where silence becomes a note that can be played. And, yes, those double-repeat bass drum rolls are being done with one foot, ladies and gentlemen.)

All with recording quality that earned this record an honored spot on the TAS list.

This copy is an actual original, a 6-eye in great shape: Cover is fine, just a little faded, with an ink note on front. Original “bag” inner sleeve is enclosed, and the 6-eye heavy platter should play near mint, being very well tended.

One of the finest jazz albums ever produced, in my view.

Shipping and handling is $4 for a single LP shipped within the States; $1 for each additional LP. Internationally, $19.60 via airmail for the first LP, $4 each thereafter. (Canada is $13.50; $3 each additional.) Boxes over 4 lbs., add another $6, because First Class is no longer available at that weight, just Priority Mail. Note, too, boxed sets of LPs require more postage.
