Beatles – Beatles for Sale – 1964 – Oz pressing of the Beatles fourth LP. Following hot on the heels of the all original Hard Day’s Night, it seems that John and Paul couldn’t quite keep up the pace with songwriting, so Beatles for Sale consists of half originals and half covers (Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Buddy Holly etc.). The album is an important turning point for the Beatles; while still a pop group, Lennon has come under the influence of Dylan, which shows up in his lyrics in songs such as No Reply and I’m a Loser. While there’s still plenty of sunshine, the dark clouds are gathering. I’ll follow the sun.
