THIS IS THE ORIGINAL 1960 PRESSING ON THE BLUE CHESS LABEL WITH SILVER PRINT # CHESS LP-1448 IN HIGH FIDELITY.

BUT IT HAS A BLUE LABEL... AND YOU SAY, ISN'T THAT A SECOND PRESSING? NOT NECESSARILY...READ ON!

To shed some light on the Chess Black/Blue label pressings this is from the Chess Album Discography:
The original Chess LP series started with LP-1425 and included albums on both the Chess and the Checker labels. After 1437, the series was used exclusively for the Chess label; the Checker label switched to a 2970 series. A note about label design changes. Label design changes are a messy operation, not usually a clean break between one design and a newer one from one album number to the next. Often, the old label blanks are used until they are depleted. Sometimes, when several pressing plants are used, some run out later than others, so we see things like the first black label showing up on LP-1500, when two label changes have already occurred since then. In the case of Chess, Checker, and Argo, different color labels with the first design were used, often for the same album, so for instance "original pressings" of a Chess album might show up with either a blue or a black label. And of course, newer labels often show up on older albums. This is more easily explained by later pressings of an album still in print. For all these reasons, it is hard to pinpoint when a new label starts for a company like Chess. Certainly the orange GRT label on a 1962 album indicates a later pressing or a reissue, but in looking at the 1960s labels, as we say, it's messy, and it's why we usually say, "about this point, the label changes."
The first Chess label was black with silver printing, "CHESS" vertically on the left side of the label. On stereo releases, a gold label with black printing was used, with the same graphics. During this time, some issues used dark blue labels with silver printing graphics were the same. These were the original labels on 1425 to approximately 1482, but also appeared sporadically on original albums as late as LP-1500

SO IN REALITY, THE 1ST PRESS BLUE LABELS ARE MORE THAN LIKELY RARER THAN THE BLACK ONES!

VISUALLY, THE 55 YEAR OLD THICK VINYL DISC IS IN NICE CONDITION! I HAVE EXAMINED THIS UNDER BRIGHT LIGHT AND DO SEE THAT THE RARE PLATTER HAS RETAINED MOST ALL OF OF IT'S DEEP RICH LUSTER! PLENTY OF SHINE HERE!

I DO SEE MANY EXTREMELY LIGHT SCUFFS/HAIRLINES (MOSTLY OF THE SWIRLY VARIETY) A COUPLE OF LONGER ONES THAT SPAN ACROSS 2-3 SONGS BUT NOTHING THAT I CONSIDERED TO BE FEEL-ABLE. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF VERY SMALL PORTIONS OF 1 OR TWO AND A SMALL NEEDLE MARK.  NOTHING HOWEVER THAT WOULD COMPROMISE THE THE WONDERFUL LISTENING EXPERIENCE!

IF YOU TEND TO BE ON THE FUSSY SIDE REGARDING APPEARANCE AND FIND YOURSELF RETURNING LP'S FROM REPUTABLE SELLERS THEN THIS IS MOST LIKELY NOT FOR YOU!!

THE  LABELS AS YOU CAN SEE AR EX TO EX + AS WELL! THEY ARE FREE FROM ANY WRITING TAPE OR STICKERS!

THE WORST OF THE VISUAL MARKS CAN BEE SEEN IN THE ABOVE PIC, LOWER RIGHT. A FEW LIGHT LINES THAT SMALL PORTIONS OF WHICH ARE JUST BARELY FEEL-ABLE AND DO NOT ADVERSELY EFFECT THE LISTENING EXPERIENCE. THEY LOOK WORSE THAN THE ARE. BASED ON THE ABOVE IMPERFECTIONS I FEEL THE VINYL DESERVES A GRADE OF EX- (MINUS) AND APPEARS TO BE LIGHTLY PLAYED.

THE COVER PRESENTS VERY NICELY! THERE IS NO WRITING, TAPE, SPLITTING, OR STICKERS ANYWHERE! UNLIKE MOST COVERS YOU FIND WITH THIS LP THIS HAS ONLY VERY MINOR STAINING/DISCOLORATION. A VERY TOUGH COVER TO FIND THIS CLEAN! THE SEAMS ARE UN-SPLIT & TIGHT! THEY DO SHOW SOME WEAR AT THE CORNERS. THE SPINE IS VERY STRONG AND PERFECTLY READABLE. THERE IS SOME VERY MINOR EVIDENCE OF RING/SHELF WEAR NOTICEABLE AS SHOWN.

THE REVERSE SIDE LINER NOTES ARE PERFECTLY READABLE AND VERY INFORMATIVE. THERE IS SOME LIGHT STAINING AS SHOWN.

THERE IS SOME MINOR STAINING /SOILING/DINGS/CREASES AS SHOWN. BASED ON THE ABOVE IMPERFECTIONS I FEEL THE COVER GRADES AS EX TO EX+

I HAVE PLAY GRADED THIS AND THE LISTENING EXPERIENCE WAS OUTSTANDING!!! THERE WAS SOME VERY MINOR OCCASIONAL NOISE HERE & THERE, A FEW SOFT TICS MOSTLY BETWEEN SONGS BUT NOTHING DISTRACTING IN ANY WAY! A NICE LISTENING COPY! THERE WERE NO SKIPS, STICKS OR LOUD DISTRACTING POPS, HISSES, CLICKS,TICKS OR BURPS! THE LISTENING EXPERIENCE GRADES NRMT-(MINUS)

OVERALL BASED ON ALL OF THE ABOVE THIS ROCKIN' LP GRADES EX - EX

ALL THAT BEING  SAID, SHE DOES HAVE A FEW BEAUTY MARKS THAT I HAVE TRIED TO DESCRIBE AS ACCURATELY AS POSSIBLE. BUT SHE IS A RARE ORIGINAL EARLY 1ST PRESSING THAT WILL PROVIDE THE NEW OWNER WITH AN AWESOME LISTENING EXPERIENCE FOR MANY YEARS TO COME! CHUCK VERY MUCH STILL SOUNDS LOUD & PROUD!

Chuck Berry, fountainhead of the rock guitar and first citizen of the hallowed halls of rock and roll music, has been hailed by rock and roll fanatics, guitarists and guitar-lovers of every generation as the Father of Rock and Roll.

He comes closest to being the one individual that can rightfully be credited with inventing rock and roll as we've come to know it today. He is one of the greatest guitarists and song-writers the world has ever known. His seminal influence on the world of music has been acknowledged by every rock musician in his wake.

Chuck Berry not only breathed life into the rock and roll sound, he infused vital energy and spirit into the rock and roll attitude. His masterfully crafted compositions were an astonishing blend of traditional black rhythm and blues with white country, jazz and western licks, and they transcended race, class and age barriers to capture the imagination of a wide variety of cosmopolitan audiences.

The thumping, foot-tapping guitar licks and the magic of the witty, rapid-fire lyrics complete with sly references to cars, girls and growing-up pains became the anthems of a generation.

Berry's music has managed to stand the test of time and reverberated through the ensuing decades to excite music connoisseurs even in the twenty-first century. To this day, his songs are essential listening for every true rock fan. Bequeathing his talent with the reverence it deserves, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Chuck Berry #6 on its list of the 100 greatest guitaristsof all time. Compliments of Scotty Smith of Guitarists Rock

WE USE GOLDMINE AS GUIDELINE FOR OUR GRADING SYSTEM.

ALL RECORDS ARE VISUALLY INSPECTED UNDER BRIGHT LIGHT. I TRY TO PLAY GRADE WHEN POSSIBLE OR AT LEAST IN ANY AREAS IDENTIFIED AS QUESTIONABLE FROM THE VISUAL INSPECTION.

MINT

Mint records are in most cases sealed in original shrink wrap. The only wear permissible is to the shrink wrap itself.

NEAR-MINT

NM records have glossy vinyl. There are no visible defects such as writing, tape, or stickers on the labels. The labels should not contain any spindle marks(from someone blindly trying to put the record on the turntable) The vinyl may have a few extremely fine hairline scratches or light scuffs that do not affect the sound quality. The vinyl will "appear" to have been unplayed (It may very well have been played and well-cared for)The album cover will haveNO writing, tape, creases, folds, seam splits, stains, ring wear or Promo holes or cuts!

VG+(EXCELLENT)

VG+records have glossy vinyl. Slight signs of wear, including light scuffs, very light scratches or slight warping that does not seriously affect the listening experience is permissible. Very slight intermittent background noise mostly in the quiet passages is acceptable.

The album cover will have no more than three of the following imperfections: light writing such as initials or name in one area, minor creasing, seam splitsnot larger than 1". Neatly taped seams of 2" or less.It may also contain very slight ring wear or discoloration, a promo stamp, punch hole or cut-out as originally sold.

VG

VG Records have more obvious flaws such as more pronounced scratches & lack of gloss. Groove wear and scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail are common. When played there will be surface noise but it should not continuously overpower the music. There areNO skips permissible with no more than 1.5 grahams of tracking force. It is common to hear crackling and pops especially in the quiet passages. The labels may contain writing such as a persons name or initials or it may contain a piece of tape or sticker with or without writing. The cover may have some seam splits, writing, tape, stickers, ring wear and scuffs.

VG-

VG- All of the defects listed VG category would be more pronounced. The record will play through without skipping WITH tracking force. A quick skip or two with no more that 2.5 grahams of tracking force are permissible. The record will have many obvious flaws but still enjoyable to listen to. Generally if the record is rare, it is still highly collectible.

G/G+

Good (G), Good Plus (G+) Good does not mean Bad! A record in Good or Good Plus condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping WITH tracking force. A quick skip or two with no more that 2.5 grahams of tracking force are permissible. It will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear (on a styrene record, the groove will be starting to turn white). A cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the object.
