THIS IS AN ORIGINAL 1959 PRESSING!  THIS WAS RECORDED ON THE DEL-FI BLUE LABEL WITH BLACK BOARDER # DFLP-1201.

VISUALLY, THE 56 YEAR OLD THICK VINYL PLATTER IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION!

I HAVE EXAMINED THIS UNDER BRIGHT LIGHT AND DO SEE  THAT THE RARE SLAB OF VINYL HAS RETAINED MOST ALL OF ITS ORIGINAL DEEP RICH LUSTER!   PLENTY OF SHINE HERE! I DO SEE SOME LIGHT SLEEVE SCUFFS & HAIRLINES. WITH  A SMALL PORTION OF 1-2 THAT I CONSIDERED TO BE  JUST BARELY FEEL-ABLE.  THERE IS A SLIGHT WARP IN THE CENTER OF THE PLATTER THAT HAS NO EFFECT ON THE PLAYABILITY OR SOUND QUALITY. THANKS TO THE WONDERFUL DEEP GROOVE PRESSING NONE OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED FLAWS WOULD  EFFECT THE OUTSTANDING LISTENING EXPERIENCE!

BASED ON THE ABOVE IMPERFECTIONS  I FEEL  THE VINYL  GRADES AS EXCELLENT!

THE LABELS ARE FREE FROM ANY WRITING OR STICKERS  SHOW VERY MINIMUM WEAR AND GRADE EXCELLENT AS WELL!

THE STUNNING COVER PRESENTS EXCEPTIONALLY WELL! THERE IS NO WRITING, TAPE OR STICKERS ANYWHERE! THE SEAMS ARE STRONG & TIGHT WITH SOME WEAR AT THE CORNERS. THE UPPER SEAM IS JUST STARTING TO SPLIT BY THE MOUTH OPENING APPROXIMATELY 1" THE LOWER SEAM IS UN- SPLIT, STRONG & TIGHT! THE SPINE IS VERY STRONG, TIGHT AND PERFECTLY READABLE WITH LIGHT WEAR AT THE CORNERS. THERE IS VERY LITTLE TO NO EVIDENCE OF ANY RING/SHELF WEAR TO FRONT SIDE AND VERY MINOR TO THE REVERSE! THE REVERSE SIDE LINER NOTES ARE EXCEPTIONALLY CLEAN, INFORMATIVE & PERFECTLY READABLE. THERE IS MINOR DISCOLORATION AROUND THE EDGES.

THERE ARE SOME VERY MINOR STAINS/DINGS/SCRAPES/SCUFFS & SOILING AS SHOWN.

BASED ON THE ABOVE IMPERFECTIONS THE COVER GRADES NRMT- (MINUS)!

I HAVE PLAY GRADED THIS AND THE LISTENING EXPERIENCE WAS OUTSTANDING!!! THERE WAS SOME EXTREMELY EXTREMELY MINOR NOISE HERE & THERE. A FEW LIGHT TICS OCCASIONALLY NOTICEABLE, MOSTLY IN THE QUITE PASSAGES. BUT CERTAINLY NOTHING DISTRACTING IN EVEN THE SLIGHTEST  WAY!  THIS BABY PLAYS LOUD & PROUD!

THERE WERE NO SKIPS, STICKS OR DISTRACTING POPS, HISSES, CLICKS,TICKS OR BURPS! THE LISTENING EXPERIENCE GRADES EX++ TO NRMT- (MINUS)!!

CONSIDERING ALL OF THE ABOVE I GIVE THIS LP AN OVERALL GRADE OF EX TO EX+. YOU WOULD BE VERY HARD PRESSED TO FIND A NICER COPY!

RITCHIE VALENS

Born: 13 May 1941 Birthplace: Pacoima, California Died: 3 February 1959 (airplane crash) Best Known As: The teen star who sang 'La Bamba'

Name at birth: Richard Valenzuela

Ritchie Valens' hit tune "La Bamba" made him America's first Hispanic rock star. He was just a kid of 17 from the Los Angeles suburbs when he released his first hit, "Come On Let's Go," in 1958. Later that year he recorded the sentimental ballad "Donna," but it was the flip side of that disc, the rollicking sung-in-Spanish "La Bamba," which became a more memorable hit. Early in 1959, still only 17, he was killed in a plane crash after performing a show in Clear Lake, Iowa. (The same plane crash killed fellow stars Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper.) The 1987 movie La Bamba resurrected the legend of Valens (with Lou Diamond Phillips playing the singer); a new version of the title song, recorded by the band Los Lobos, became an even bigger hit than the original.

Valens won a coin toss with guitarist Tommy Allsup to get a seat on the fatal flight. The Big Bopper also talked bassist Waylon Jennings into giving up his seat; Jennings later became a well-known country music star... Record producer Bob Kane suggested the stage name "Valens," which he thought would have more appeal to non-Hispanic audiences.

ALL RECORDS ARE VISUALLY INSPECTED UNDER BRIGHT LIGHT. I TRY TO PLAY GRADE WHEN POSSIBLE OR AT LEAST IN ANY AREAS IDENTIFIED AS QUESTIONABLE FROM THE VISUAL INSPECTION.

MINT

Mint records are in most cases sealed in original shrink wrap. The only wear permissible is to the shrink wrap itself.

NEAR-MINT

NM records have glossy vinyl. There are no visible defects such as writing, tape, or stickers on the labels. The labels should not contain any spindle marks (from someone blindly trying to put the record on the turntable) The vinyl may have a few extremely fine hairline scratches or light scuffs that do not affect the sound quality. The vinyl will "appear" to have been unplayed (It may very well have been played and well-cared for) The album cover will have NO writing, tape, creases, folds, seam splits ,stains, ring wear or Promo holes or cuts!

VG+ (EXCELLENT)

VG+ records have glossy vinyl. Slight signs of wear, including light scuffs, very light scratches or slight warping that does not  seriously affect the listening experience is permissible. Very slight intermittent background noise mostly in the quiet passages is acceptable.

The album cover will have no more than three of the following imperfections: light writing such as initials or name in one area, minor creasing, seam splits not larger than 1".  Neatly taped seams of 2" or less. It may also contain very slight ring wear or discoloration, a promo stamp, punch hole or cut-out as originally sold.

VG

VG Records have more obvious flaws such as more pronounced scratches & lack of gloss. Groove wear and scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail are common. When played there will be surface noise but it should not continuously overpower the music. There are NO skips permissible with no more than 1.5 grahams of tracking force. It is common to hear crackling and pops especially in the quiet passages. The labels may contain writing such as a persons name or initials or it may contain a piece of tape or sticker with or without writing. The cover may have some seam splits, writing, tape, stickers, ring wear and scuffs.

VG-

VG- All of the defects listed VG category would be more pronounced. The record will play through without skipping WITH NORMAL tracking force. A quick skip or two with no more that 2.5 grahams of tracking force are permissible. The record will have many obvious flaws but still enjoyable to listen to. Generally if the record is rare, it is still highly collectible.

G/G+

Good (G), Good Plus (G+) Good does not mean Bad! A record in Good or Good Plus condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping WITH NORMAL tracking force. A quick skip or two with no more that 2.5 grahams of tracking force are permissible. It will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear (on a styrene record, the groove will be starting to turn white). A cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the object.
