Julian Sitkovetsky: Glazunov & Lyapunov Violin Concertos - USSR-MK D 04258/9
This handsome LP MK · Mezhdurodnaya Kniga (D 04258-04259(a), thick Soviet pressing, red/gold MK label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features legendary violinist Julian Sitkovetsky in stunning performances of Alexander Glazunov’s Violin Concerto in A minor Op. 82 and Sergei Lyapunov’s Violin Concerto in D minor Op. 61.
The former was recorded in 1952 with Kirill Kondrashin conducting the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, while the latter was set down in 1948 with Sergei Gorchakov leading the USSR State Radio Symphony Orchestra.
This is exalted playing by any measure and all those who treasure the art of the violin will find much to admire here.
JULIAN SITKOVETSKY plays GLAZOUNOV's violin concerto opus 82 and LYPUNOV's violin concerto opus 61,
conducted by Sergei Gorchakov.
