This was one of two on Chris Blackwell's Island Records and only one of two recorded, engineered, mixed and released in Jamaica.
"Neil Storey Its the second Island Records LP issued – CB22 – and, clearly, the follow up to Lance Haywood at Half Moon. The sleeve designer (Barbara deLisser) was, I believe, the girlfriend of Chris Blackwell at the time and the daughter of the gentleman who ran the Half Moon. There is a 3rd LP in this series – CB23 – which is an Ernest Ranglin LP. After that, all Island LPs were prefixed ILP... "
"Guy Steuart  The photo is taken on the Sunset Beach at Half Moon. There is a different guitarist appearing on this album (Frank Rabain and Ernst Ranglin are on the first Island Records recording of Lance Hayward). This volume also uses the correct spelling of Hayward. Graham Goodall, engineer, was a partner in the founding of Islands Records."
"In the winter season, 1958, once again the excellent jazz pianist and blind singer found no work in Bermuda. He picked up a commitment to the Half Moon Hotel in Montego Bay, Jamaica. It was there that a young Jamaican entrepreneur decided to finance his first recordings, melting at the same time a soon to be famous brand: Island Discs. The album Lance Hayward at Half Moon was the first publication. This 30cm was recorded at studios Radio Jamaica and Rediffusion (RJR) Kingston by Graham Goodall and manufactured in New York by the Olmsted Sound Studios discs. Then twenty years the budding producer Chris Blackwell soon launch the international careers of Millie Small, Steve Winwood, Cat Stevens, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley, Toots & the Maytals, U2 and many others. Lance Hayward was his first discovery. He performs here a composition of Baba Brooks, Jamaican trumpeter in jazz band Eric Dean in Kingston. Brooks will be known in the 1960s for his recordings with the Skatalites and the largest producer, ska and rocksteady singer Prince Buster. The rest of the album especially Lance Hayward meets American jazz standards (and "Julie" composition), but the pianist also succumbed to the fever calypso with this title in the zeitgeist. He then abandoned the Mu-En choir he founded in Bermuda and moved to New York, where he founded the Hayward Singers and continued to play until his death in early 1980. Bermuda has experienced several musicians jazz talent, including trombonist Iris Burgess welcomed by Duke Ellington, saxophonist Clifford Darrell, the Ghandi Burgess trumpeter and drummer Clarence "Tootsie" Bean, heard here accompanying Hayward."
