The Velvet Underground and Nico. Orig.1st press. Cat. # V/V6-5008

This is a very rare, original mono pressing from 1967.

Matrix Numbers: Side 1 MG558, side 2 MG559.

Cover: VG to VG+, has some typical shelf wear front and rear from dust and use; typical yellowing on front and rear; scuffing and ringwear. It has about a 2" seam split at the top near the jacket opening, and minor edge wear and corner bumping. The banana has been peeled and put back in place; It has some minor creasing and the top 1.5" of the banana peel was torn, and then put back. So the Banana peel is torn in one place, but is intact and all there.

This copy also has the original and very rare recalled 'Torso' lp cover. When the album was first issued, the main back cover photo (taken at an Exploding Plastic Inevitable performance) featured an image of actor Eric Emerson from one of Warhol's films projected upside-down on the wall behind the band. Emerson threatened to sue over the unauthorized use of his image, unless he was paid. Rather than complying, MGM recalled copies of the album and halted its distribution until Emerson's image could be airbrushed from the photo on subsequent pressings.

Vinyl: visually graded under strong lighting it looks to be somewhere between a strong VG and VG+, a nice played copy for it's age. There are numerous small surface nicks, scuffs, surface hairline scratches, but none appear to be deep. The vinyl is high gloss and the labels are in excellent condition.
