I'm listing these rock n roll treasures on behalf of a pal of mine who is a life long jerry lee lewis fan,and has many other jerry lee collectables, including signed copies of his first albums and concert posters and George can be contacted by phone for any further information on the number below.
He picked these up over the years and brought them to me believing them to be all unplayed, but under very close scrutiny using a strong light and a magnifying glass i've picked up on one or two spindle trails which i've detailed below, some would say that they aren't spindle trails as the labels have a slightly mottled effect, but just incase i'm listing them as spindle trails.Despite this i'd say this is as good a bunch of jerry lee 78's as your ever likely to come across. This is real roots rock n roll history here, sun records is where it all began.
With some very careful positioning and handling so as not to add any further spindle trails i've played these all through entirely both sides and i'm happy to report that they play through without fault, they sound fantastic and it was a delight to listen to.
They list as follows
1) Great balls of fire/You win again - hand scribed run out matrix numbers U277/U276 - 0/1 plays (spindle trails) - mint on one side and near mint on the other side - both sides play through beautifully
2) High school confidential/Fools like me - hand scribed matrix run out groove markings 306/307 - 0/0 plays - Fools like me has a 2" very superficial scratch which is not in anyway feelable and doesn't sound when played, its towards the end and doesn't create any clicks, despite this i still believe it to be unplayed as there are zero spindle trails. The line,i could barely call it a scratch, has probably been there since manufacture - mint one side and strong excellent on the other side - both sides play through beautifully
3)Down the line/Breathless - hand scribed run out matrix numbers U290/U291 - 0/0 plays - mint both sides - both sides play beautifully
4) End of the road/Crazy arms - hand scribed matrix run out groove numbers U230/U229 - 0/2 plays - mint on one side and near mint on the other - end of the road has a poorly die cut label,it was often the case with these sun record labels, and two loose fragements from it are still stuck on the records run out groove, they perfectly match the two missing pieces from the labels perimeter,i'd say thats another indicator that this side has never seen a needle (expand pic. 8 to see) - both sides play beautifully
All have their original brown paper sleeves.
