The Wall is the eleventh studio album by English  band . It was released as a  on 30 November 1979, by  in the United Kingdom and by  in the United States. It received an initially mixed critical response, but was commercially successful, reaching number 3 on the , and topping the  chart for 15 weeks. The album is considered one of the most recognisable . It is the band's second best selling album (after ) and one of the . In 1982, it was adapted into a .

Bass guitarist and songwriter  conceived the album as a  during Pink Floyd's 1977 , when his frustration with the audience became so acute that he spat on them. Its story, which follows themes of abandonment and personal isolation, explores Pink, a character whom Waters modeled after himself and the band's original leader . Pink's life begins with the loss of his father during the , and continues with abuse from his schoolteachers, an overprotective mother, and the breakdown of his marriage; all contribute to his eventual self-imposed isolation from society, represented by a metaphorical wall. The band, who were then struggling with personal and financial difficulties, supported the idea. Waters enlisted an outside collaborator, Canadian producer , due to his need for somebody who he felt was "musically and intellectually" similar to himself, as well as a helping hand for the cumbersome amount of material that was written. Recording lasted from December 1978 to November 1979, with stops in France, England, New York, and Los Angeles. Waters' song "" became the band's first and only chart-topper when released as the album's lead single. Two songs co-written by guitarist , "" and "", were also issued as singles.

Cover -Very Good Plus - Slight discoloration on white cover with small signs of ring wear.  Spines and corners are all excellent with some shelf wear on the spine that caused a small bit of letter fading.  Just a step down from Excellent condition.

Inner Sleeve - Very Good - Both of the original inner sleeves with the lyrics to the songs on them.  They have some bends and wrinkles and small seam splits.

Album - Very Good Plus - Plays great with no skips.  Very minimal background noise and some slight surface rubs.  Just a hair under Excellent.

Insert - There is an insert that I believe was under the shrink wrap when it was new to show the name of the album and the artist.  It has the catalog number 36183 on it.  It is wrinkled from being tucked between the spine on the inside of the album gatefold for safekeeping over the years.

Grading Scale

Mint - Sealed and unplayed.

Near Mint -Virtually New, this grading is given only to opened albums that still appear brand new but have been played.

Excellent - Slightly flawed albums that might have a couple of scuffs that do not effect play.  There will be no pops or skips.  Covers might have 1 to 2 minor flaws.

Very Good Plus - For an album, this grading will mean that there are potentially some pops or background noise, not skips, when playing.  There will be some visual wear to the vinyl. For a cover, this grading will reflect 3-4 visual flaws, but there will be no seam splitting or discount holes/clips.  There may be minor ring wear, or slight corner rounding

Very Good - For an album there might be a couple of skips, but they are not fatal skips, they do play through. These albums will also show some surface wear and potentially label wear or writing on the labels.  They are still players though!  You should be able to enjoy most of the album with just a skip or two and not have to get up and move the needle.  For the cover, they will show 5-6 visual flaws.

Good -This grading should not even be on any item that I am selling unless it is in relation to a busted up cover with a great NM or EXC graded vinyl in it. This cover will likely have major seam splitting along with multiple other flaws.  The vinyl will be challenging to listed to with multiple scuffs and fatal skips.  Just buy a better copy.

Poor - Album is junk and the Cover is trash. Why would you buy something like this?  Just remember this grading scale when you buy albums on Ebay.  A lot of sellers fluff their grading scale and don't tell you about all of the flaws when they sell them.  Don't be afraid to send back your vinyl if it has not been graded correctly.
