GENESIS Trespass UK B&C Large Hatter Ultra Rare Label Variant Pressing LP

GENESIS Trespass. UK Charisma CAS 1020 . Released 1970

Please also see my other Genesis first pressings and other prog LP’s that I am currently auctioning on eBay.

This auction is for an ultra rare label variant of the Charisma Large Mad Hatter label sold in the UK in approx. 1974. Although sold in the UK (there are also just UK catalogue numbers present)  this record and sleeve were manufactured in Holland due to the declining fortunes of B&C records who eventually became insolvent and were eventually liquidated in 1975. These Dutch manufactured copies with etched matrix numbers CAS 1020 A and CAS 1020 B are rare, but not overly difficult to locate. What makes this copy so special is that it has a subtly different design to the normal Large Mad Hatter label.

Having researched this over a number of years, I have concluded that the Dutch factories were given a stock of  the “normal” mad hatter labels from the UK, which were used on the majority of the Dutch pressed records.  At some point, they ran out of the labels and having no UK printed labels left, they printed their own Mad Hatter labels on which the text was laid out differently to the original. I have included a photo of the normal hatter labels in the listing so that the differences can be seen.

These label variants are very rare and are only found on the Genesis albums, Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot and Selling England.

Note : The Trespass variant is one of the hardest to locate of the four, this is an extreme rarity!

Grading: -

Outer Sleeve: VG

The Bruin BV manufactured sleeve has a smooth gatefold cover which is in   condition VG condition. It is clean and in reasonably nice condition apart from a seam spilt along the bottom edge measuring 40mm and some general wear to the spine which has also slightly split in one section.

Vinyl: VG

The Vinyl is in VG condition. The record is generally clean with just a moderate amount of light hairlines and 2 or 3 slightly more prominent hairlines, although none of these is particularly heavy or deep. Retains most of its glossy black shine throughout. Not a Mint copy but then again, this is a very rare record.

Labels: Mint

The all important “Bruin variant” Labels are in Mint condition – perfectly clean. I could not detect any spindle marks, even when viewed under bright halogen light.

Inner Sleeve:  EX. Poly-lined Robert Stace type. Probably not the original but certainly of the era i.e. late 1960’s or early 1970’s

This is a nice copy of an ultra-rare edition of Trespass, bearing a very rare label variation manufactured for the UK market.

Postage and Packing:

All records are placed in a separate poly lined inner and stored flat outside the sleeve and then placed sealed in a re-sealable polythene outer prior to shipping.  Records are then placed between square cardboard sheets before packaging into cruciform mailers especially designed for LP’s. These mailers are a high-grade type which reinforce the edges around the LP and as such they are larger and weigh more than standard mailers.  My postage costs reflect the additional size and weight of the packaging that I use.
