Contrary to what it says on the cover (“recorded LIVE at the Royal Albert Hall, London”), not all songs were recorded "live" and none at the Albert Hall concert.

An effort to record the Albert Hall show may have been made, but live footage of that concert shows that the general mayhem created by audience participation didn’t allow a proper show. The live tracks were apparently recorded at City Hall, Newcastle (October 1, 1966) and Colston Hall, Bristol (October 7, 1966). According to Bill Wyman some overdubs were later added at IBC Studios, London.

The song list on the autumn 1966 UK package tour was too short to make a full album consequently, studio recordings with overdubbed live audience were added, “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” and “Fortune Teller”, from 1965 and 1963, respectively.

Unedited versions of both studio tracks are available on “More Hot Rocks” (the latter only on the extended version of that compilation).
