WILD YOUTH – WOT ’BOUT ME / RADIO YOUTH – very rare South African punk rock 7” single 1979

Not on label / No label.

“WY 1A” (Wot ’Bout Me) and “WY 1B” (Radio Youth) etched in the dead wax.

Released in 1979.

Extremely rare original debut single by South Africa' s first real punk band. It was released independently by the band; only 250 copies were pressed.

Grading is conservative.

Visually:

USED, pre-enjoyed, but not abused. There are some scratches, scuffs, and markings on both sides, including a cosmetic marking on Radio Youth which does not affect sound quality or interrupt play. A small, feelable marking on ‘Wot ‘Bout Me’. No serious scratches that will interfere with play.

Audio grading: Wot ‘Bout Me

Some crackle at the start of the song before the music kicks in.
 
Although minimal background static is also audible on occasion during the song, the music is still well to the forefront throughout play.

No ‘skips’, ‘sticks’ or ‘jumps’. No distortion.

In summary, Wot ‘Bout Me is fully playable and enjoyable despite occasional light wear. I would grade between VG and VG+ overall // 6.5 – 7 out of 10.

Audio grading: Radio Youth

Note: there is a bit of wear to the spindle hole on this side. Also, slight damage to the label is visible in two places either side of the spindle hole.

Very brief crackle at the start of the song.

As mentioned, the marking on this side (please see photo) has no effect on play whatsoever.

This side is fully playable and enjoyable with the music being well to the forefront throughout play. I would grade Radio Youth as VG+ overall // 7.5 – 8 out of 10.

No audible wear. No distortion.

No ‘skips’, ‘sticks’ or ‘jumps’.


The generic sleeve is still functional, but it is in Poor condition (dirty, markings). The single will be shipped to the winning bidder in a replacement sleeve in better condition.
