Banksy is a renowned street artist from Bristol. His true identity is kept secret despite several attempts to reveal it. It seems he was born in 1974 (or perhaps 1973). He started as a graffiti artist in the 1980s and, in order to be able to finish his artworks in the shortest possible time and thus avoid detection, he used stencils rather in the style of the French street artist Blek le Rat.
He moved from Bristol to London and had "decorated" buildings from Australia to Canada. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are said to collect his art and an Andy Warhol-style painting with six portraits of Kate Moss sold at auction for over £20,000! Once, a house he had decorated with a large mural was put up for sale as "A Banksy with house attached". Banksy has contributed art to a large number of record and CD covers which are becoming collectible. Banksy's record cover art has been shown in a number of exhibitions; including at Stockholm's Konserthus, Sweden, from June 19th - August 23rd, 2012, the "War, Capitalism & Liberty" exhibition in Rome, 2016 and the "Second Principle of Banksy" exhibition in Genoa, Italy, in 2019-2020.
