1st US West Coast pressing of this album truly is rare. First and foremost, it is the unique Verve Records 2.75" deep groove pressing ring labels which had been pressed by H.V. Waddell Co. since the album's release date of January 30, 1968. Towards the end of 1968 the company updated its plant's pressing equipment and switched to the labels with the double non-deep groove pressing rings with a different diameter. The bold font on this copy's labels is analogous to the font on the West Coast promotional white label. This copy contains the 1st print version cover having an image of a skull tattoo which was designed by Andy Warhol as indicated on the back cover in the 1st pressing credits "Cover Concept: Andy Warhol". The back cover also credits Lou Reed for "Lead Guitar" rather than just "Guitar". Additionally, the back cover also misprints "Here She Comes Now" as "There She Comes Now". The spine with the catalog number V6-5046 reads "White Light / White Heat The Velvet Underground Verve". ★ The cover remains in the original factory shrink wrap and is in fantastic condition. The album comes with an original Verve Records inner sleeve. The full matrix number in the runout groove of the very early 1st pressing vinyl are as follows: Side 1 - V6-5046 SIDE-1 MGS-1258 / Side 2 - V6-5046 SIDE 2 MGS-1259. The cover is graded as Near Mint. The inner sleeve is also in Near Mint condition. I grade the glossy vinyl Side 1 as Near Mint Minus as it almost doesn't have any surface marks or scuffs with Side 2 being in strong Very Good Plus / Excellent Minus condition due to it having one light surface cosmetic hairline and a small scuff, both of which don't affect the playback in any way. The vinyl with a fresh beautiful shine sounds fantastic, perhaps only having some background noise during the quiet passage which is most likely just the static which will go away completely if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
