This copy is the 1st reissue of 1970 of The Beatles' album compilation "Hey Jude" ("The Beatles Again"). The cover of this reissue represents an undocumented example having the band name and album title printed at the top of the front side. I had never seen this cover before, therefore, my version concerning its origin is my personal assumption. Initially, the album was called "The Beatles Again" and the labels with this title had already been printed before the title of the album was changed to "Hey Jude" shortly before the album's release. It's most likely, it's during this stage, when Capitol Records decided to change the design of the label leaving only the "Hey Jude" title, it also considered the possibility of changing the design of the cover. Perhaps, this cover is one of the sample versions of the suggested design. A similar situation was happening with the cover of Led Zeppelin III whose design was changed approximately five times. Could the layout design variations of the cover be in someone's collection? I repeat this is just my version of this cover's origin. Except for the banners on the front, the rest of the cover is fully analogous to the regular commercial copy and contains the "SW-385" catalog number on the back and spine, "Printed in U.S.A." stamp in the lower right-hand corner and "Manufactured by Apple Records Inc., 1700 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10019" credits at the bottom center on the back. Neither the back cover nor the labels have Capitol or EMI logo. Apple Records label variation with the "Hey Jude" banner only, catalog number "SW-385" and "Mfd. by Apple Records, Inc." rim text at the bottom of Side 2. The vinyl pressed at the Capitol Records Jacksonville, IL pressing plant contains the machine stamped "0" identifier on both sides. The mastering of this copy was performed by BellSound Studios, whose identifiers in cursive handwriting are also located in the runout groove on both sides. The full matrix number are as follows: Side 1 - SO-1-385 Z-17#3 BellSound sf 0 / Side 2 - SO-2-385 Z-13#2 BellSound sf 0. The album comes with an original Apple Record white inner sleeve.

I grade the cover as strong Very Good Plus. It doesn't contain any writing or splits and is very clean, only having some very light shelf wear and ring wear on the back along with some light scuffing on the spine. The vinyl is in strong Very Good Plus condition having only a few very light surface hairlines and scuffs from the inner sleeve. The labels are in Near Mint Minus condition. The vinyl sounds great, only having some very light background noise, which is most likely just static and will get reduced or go away completely if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI machine.
