INCREDIBLY RARE RCA RECORDS CONTRACT PRESSING WITH THE VERY EARLY -A2 / - A1 MATRIX NUMBERS

Every collection is evaluated first and foremost by the presence in it of the rarest issues. This RCA Records contract pressing of The Beatles “Meet The Beatles” is without any doubts one of them. This rarest contract pressing contains the undocumented hybrid label variation with 2 BMI publishing credits. Since this label variation is undocumented the circumstances behind its appearance remain a mystery. Most likely, this hybrid label was created by mistake when the labels of the second and the third variation were mixed together. Original Capitol Records glossy 1st print multicolor band 2.75” RCA Records deep groove Mono labels with the catalog number T-2047. Original 1st print single-type cardboard Version 1 cover with the dark brown “The Beatles” banner and without the “George Martin, Producer” credit in the lower left-hand corner on the back remains in the original factory shrink wrap. The back cover doesn’t have a Capitol Records factory designator number and therefore, it could be assumed that according to the contract the back cover was printed by Keystone Printed Specialties Co., Inc. specifically for RCA Records. The RCA Records, Rockaway, NJ plant pressing contains the very early 1st issue matrix numbers: Side 1 - T1 2047 T18 1 A2; Side 2 - T2 2047 T20 1 A1. The album comes with an original royal blue Capitol Records inner sleeve.

I grade the cover as Near Mint Minus with only the original shrink wrap having some very light shelf wear. The vinyl is graded as Very Good. It retains its glossy factory lustre but has some marks and hairlines along with the scuffs from the inner sleeve, which is in Near Mint Minus condition. The shiny clean labels are in Very Good Plus condition as they have some very light scuffing along with a couple of very light spindle marks seen under a strong light source.
