TEXAS TEEN POP 45: JACK AND MEL (MELVIN DOUGLAS aka STERLING DAMON) A Thousand Stars/My Foolish Pride, DEL-HI 500. Jack and Mel, Vocal Acc. The Epics: Jack Moore and Mel Douglas. Mel, according to discogs.com, was known as a psychedelic songwriter (Melvin Douglas Gilmore) and recorded later as Sterling Damon. This 45 is obviously from his pre-mind expansion era.

VG++.

This 45 came from a collector who began buying records as a teenager from local stores in Los Angeles in the 1950s; most are original first pressings. Many of them have stickers or writing on the labels (see photos). The collection also includes early 1960s promotional jazz and R&B 45s sent to (but not played by) a San Antonio pop radio station, along with other records acquired in Texas and Kansas City.

Those graded VG+ or better are clean and glossy with only faint scuffs or blemishes, if any.

GRADING: LPs, EPs and 45s are graded M (mint), NM (near mint), VG+, VG (very good), VG-, G+, G (good), G-, F (fair), and P (poor).

A VG+ record may have some visible scuffs and light scratches and plays well with little surface noise. Scratches on records graded VG and VG- may be deep enough to feel with your fingernail, or there may be scuffs or scratches throughout that cause surface noise. On records in the G+, G and G- range the level of the music is still above the surface noise caused by scuffs and scratches. Surface noise is as loud as the music on records graded F and louder than the music on P records. P records are likely to be unplayable.

[+ and - denote in-between grades. Grades with a slash in between indicate the condition of Side A/Side B.]

Jackets graded VG+ have only slight wear; jackets graded VG are more worn but still intact unless defects are noted. G jackets show definite damage and F and P jackets are probably falling apart. Splits, markings, cut corners, and other defects will be noted or shown in the photos with this listing.
