GRADING
Mint
(M)
The
record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or
deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as
the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.
Excellent
(Ex)
The
record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very
little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might
have slight wear and/or creasing.
Very
Good (Vg)
The
record has obviously been played many times, and may have slight
deterioration in sound quality, noticeable surface marks and the
occasional light scratch. Sleeve will have wear and tear, as expected
for it's age.
Gradings are based on record collector although they are very unreliable and open to much interpretation and personal choice. So + and ? are added to define better.
I do not grade MINT or Nr MINT unless they are truly that and in over thirty years of record collecting there are very few truly MINT records to be found. This is due to the fact you are taking into consideration essentially a piece of plastic that is open to all elements like pressing static and differing audio equipment such as cartridges, and of course wear and tear.
CLASSICAL RECORDS Classical records are graded to the strictest of grading due to the nature of the music. These gradings are much higher than perhaps a jazz or rock LP.
I try to give actual descriptions where possible describing the musical piece. So a grading of say EX compared to other genres may be in reality EX+ or Nr MINT. Most rare classical records will be play tested and recorded for your listening. I recommend listening before bidding.
