12 LPs with 10 in Original Boxes: The Golden Record Library - A Musical Heritage For Young America - 1959 Release
Comments:
This collection is sold As-Is. The records have not been play-tested. I did a visual inspection and all look playable, but looks can be deceiving. As with any old records that have been handled, there is a chance that one or more could have defects that affect playability. At the very least, some crackle and other record noise shouldn't be unexpected.
Two volumes of this 12 volume set no longer have boxes. There are 10 boxes total. Volumes 3 and 7 have the LPs only. For the volumes in boxes, each contains one LP and a 4 page booklet. Each box (except one) has a carboard spacer on the bottom to fill the void since one LP does not fill a box!
I provided detailed photos of Volume One and the box contents to give you an idea of what the contents of the boxes looks like.
Visual Record Condition: The vinyl is in VG condition on average. The LPs still have lots of shine along with some scuffs and occasional light scratches. A few fingerprint marks and stains were seen too. All of these records could stand to be washed clean before use if you plan to actually listen to them and want the best possible sound. I wiped off a few of the LPs with record cleaner and my cleaning cloth picked up a good bit of accumulated grime.
Record Labels Condition: The labels look decent although many have some foxing spots.
Play Test Notes: I did not play test these LPs. If You Run Into A
Problem Playing A Record: Something that I have learned is that if a record
skips or has a few loud pops, the problem can often be fixed. Sure – if the
cause is a bad scratch or gouge - there might not be much hope. But often the
cause of the problem is a speck. Very small specks of sleeve dust or other tiny
debris can adhere to an LP surface from the pressure of sitting jam-packed on
the shelf for years. These little specks can cause skips and loud pops. The
good news is that a targeted drop of liquid and a soft record cleaning cloth will often
remove such specks and restore play to normal or at least make things much
better. So don’t give up on a seemingly faulty record without executing a
careful search and destroy mission to eliminate specks.
Jacket Type and Condition: Ten of these volumes are in their original boxes and two volumes are in paper inner sleeves only. The boxes look pretty good from the front art standpoint. But the boxes themselves have a good bit of wear including some splits, dust and stains. A former owner used some reinforced tape to patch up some splits and that old tape has dried up and is disintegrating. That previous owner also put little stickers on the backs of boxes with some writing. As previously mentioned, there is a cardboard space filler in each box (except Volume 11). You may notice a little faint, old-record mustiness.
Inner Sleeve Type and Condition: Most volumes have paper inner sleeves designed for the set. Volumes 10 and 11 have replacement inner sleeves. Volume 3 (with no box) is also in a plain white sleeve with writing on it. The inner sleeves show some wear, spots and yellowing and most have seam splts.
Inserts: Each of the 10 boxes contains a 4 page booklet insert about the same size as an LP. The two volumes with no boxes have no booklets. The baton mentioned on the cover of Volume 2 was not found in the box.
Shipping Notes: The shipping charge you are asked to pay covers some of the costs I incur for postage and quality packing materials. This will be packed well for secure shipping. The very large and moderately heavy package will be shipped by USPS Media Mail. I generally pack and ship items sold right away and hand them over to the post office at the earliest opportunity (sometimes same day, sometimes next day).
Please see the photos to check out the condition for yourself. Zoom right in and have a good look.
