Vintage 5 LP Lot #23: Firestone Presents Your Favorite Christmas Carols (Volume 1 and Volume 5), Firestone Presents Your Favorite Christmas Music (Volume 4 and Volume 6), Firestone Presents Your Christmas Favorites (Volume 7)
Comments:
These records were all cleaned and then fully play tested from start to finish. These classic records, full of classy Christmas music, were issued in the 1960s. I want to point out right away that one of the records skipped once - annoying, but not that annoying. Details below.
The visual condition of the records varies from VG to VG+. All are glossy with light surface scuffs. A few light scratches are seen here and there. The labels all look good. The records all reproduce the music with full, rich sound with varying levels of background record surface noise and sometimes some light ticks and clicks. Surface noise was tolerable even in the worst case in my opinion and didn't prevent full enjoyment of the music.
The record jackets are all in VG or VG+ condition. They mostly look good aside from some issues with the Volumes 4 and 6 jackets. I have placed them each in new, poly outer protective sleeves to help minimize further wear. Most jackets show various kinds of wear on the surfaces, edges and corners. Most have writing on the backs of the covers. The inner sleeves are mostly all replacements.
Following is a list of the records included with further condition and play test comments: Volume 1 (1962): Front cover looks VG+. Back looks more VG. Some edge and corner wear. The mono record looks VG+. It is glossy with some light surface scuffs. Background record surface noise is mild with occasional (but not many) ticks / clicks. Volume 4 (1965): Front cover looks VG+ when looked at straight-on, but there is serious wear on the edges and the text on the spine has been obliterated. On the back, some of the edges of the pasted on white liner notes are gone. I don't know if somebody did that on purpose or if it was from an unfortunate manufacturing accident. The stereo record looks mostly VG+ (but it's not totally). It is glossy with some light surface scuffs, a short scratch and a speck. The short scratch in "The Christmas Song" causes the needle to skip once during an instrumental bridge. It's unfortunate, but doesn't sound too alarming either. There is a small white speck embedded in the vinyl in "Ave Maria". I tried hard, but could not remove the speck and it ends up producing four ticks during play. Now, having said all that bad stuff, let me just say that this record sounds fantastic! Background record surface noise is very mild (except as indicated) and the sound quality is superb! That's why it is still included in this lot. I was able to overlook the couple of very short flawed moments and still enjoy the listen immensely. Volume 5 (1966): The cover looks VG+ with a little wear on the edges. The vinyl looks VG+. It's glossy with light surface scuffs. Background record surface noise was mostly mild with occasional light ticks. Volume 6 (1967): The cover is in VG condition. It encountered a damp storage environment at some point. In the upper right area there is some damage from being stuck to another record jacket in storage and there is some extra discoloration on the back side. You may notice a faint musty scent. The vinyl is in glossy VG condition with some scuffs and a few light surface scratches. Background record surface noise was mild apart from occasional ticks. There are some persistent ticks early on side 1. Volume 7 (1968): The cover looks mostly VG+, but there are some worn spots on the spine. The vinyl is glossy VG+ with a few light scuffs a a few short, light scratches. General background record surface noise is mild while the music is playing. There are occasional light ticks and a few louder clicks. The music sounds absolutely beautiful and the sound produced by this record is of excellent quality. Shipping Notes: A substantial portion of the cost for this lot covers the postage and packing materials required. I'll pack these well for safe shipping with the records tucked into the outer sleeves, outside of the jackets. I generally pack and ship items sold right away and hand them over to the post office at the earliest opportunity (sometimes same day, sometimes next day).
Please see the photos to check out the condition for yourself to the extent possible. Zoom right in and have a good look.
