Frank Starr - Biography

"Singer and guitarist Frank Starr was born Franklin Delano Gulledge on October 21, 1932 near Combs, Arkansas. In the early 1950s he formed a band, the Arkansas Playboys, with his brothers Bob and Chuck.
In the late ‘50s he was mobbed in the lobby of a Nashville hotel, the crowd mistaking him for Elvis.
A colorful character, Frank fought in the Korean War, had his own rock ‘n’ roll revue in Canada from 1959 to 1965 and was elected to the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
Frank appeared on Holiday Inn 104 in August 1961 with 'Knees Shakin' / 'Evil Eye' and on 108 with 'Little Bitty Feeling' / 'Lost In A Dream' in April 1962.
A further disc appeared in 1963, ‘Me And The Fool’ / ‘Pledge Of Love’ (Lin 5033).
In later years, Frank changed his name to Andy Starr to avoid confusion with a singer named Frankie Starr.
In 1975 he appeared on the RM label in the UK as Frank (Andy) Starr with 'Dig Them Squeaky Shoes' / 'Rockin' And Reelin' Country Style'.
He moved to Kingston, Idaho and took a job at a sawmill, but never gave up his music. He had a radio show on KWAL in Wallace, Idaho. He returned to the studio in Nashville in 2002 to record a final album
Frank died on December 9, 2003"
