Original Atlantic Records special promotional release of Led Zeppelin’s 3rd studio album “Led Zeppelin III”. These promotional DJ copies were shipped to radio stations more than 50 years ago and most of the time, and aside from a few exceptions, it’s hard to tell which radio station the certain copy belonged to. The same would apply to the currently listed copy but the presence of the original stickers not only allows to determine the name of the radio station, but also the DJ who it belonged to. The front cover of the original 1st print rotating wheel gatefold cover contains a personal clear sticker of the legendary DJ Don Steele, better known as “The Real Don Steele”, the DJ of America’s #1 Music Station 93/KHJ BOSS Radio Los Angeles. Very often, the photos and information about Don Steele can be found in the “BOSS Hitbounds” inserts (we’ve included into the listing several original inserts from the BOSS Radio archive with the photos of Don Steele and the first mentioning of Led Zeppelin’s “The Immigrant Song” in the “93/KHJ Boss 30” chart dated November 25, 1970) but coming across a personal DJ’s sticker is an incredible rarity. The “Absolutely Boss!” sticker contains accurate caricature image of “The Real Don Steele”. Don Steele was one of the most popular US DJs starting in the 1960s becoming nationally famous as a DJ on KHJ in Los Angeles, where he helped to promote the "ultrahip" top-40 Boss Radio format, and appearing on TV as host of “Boss City” and “The Real Don Steele TV Show". Original round orange “Promotional Copy Not For Sale” sticker and a black “Led Zeppelin III” hype sticker are also located on the front cover. The bottom right corner, below the Atlantic Records fan logo, has the four digit “SD 7201” 1st issue catalog number. Special promotional “Sample Copy Not For Sale” print 2.75” pressing ring white labels with the “1841 Broadway, New York, N.Y.” address and “RI” abbreviation indicating the pressing by Philips Recording Company, Inc. The Side 1 label contains the original “93/KHJ Los Angeles” sticker. The matrix numbers contain the “PR” initials of the mastering engineer Paul Richmond and are as follows: Side 1 – ST-A-702005-A (I)One Mastercraft PR -So Mote Be It- A AT; Side 2 – ST-A-702006-E-F  I-II PR. The album comes with the original Atlantic Records “From The Atlantic Catalogue” inner sleeve having the adverts for the other Atlantic releases.

Please take into consideration that promotional copies, before they ended up in a collection, they were actively being used at a radio station as a demonstration example and this couldn't to one degree or another but affect their condition. If you intend to acquire this copy for the listening purpose only, perhaps the best solution would be to purchase a CD with a great mastering where you'll hear a perfect sound without all the flaws which almost all of the vintage promotional copies have due to being used by DJs during broadcasts. Additionally, some flaws (such as ticks, pops and background noise) of such records might be resolved with a good cleaning, please take this circumstance into consideration when reading the description of the vinyl in our listings. If you're a collector and purchase such copies as an investment then you're on the right path as without any doubts the value of these rare examples increases every year.

The very clean cover is graded as Excellent Plus and only has a little bit of shelf wear on the back. The glossy vinyl is graded as Very Good Plus. It contains some very light non-feelable surface marks and hairlines as well as scuffs from the original inner sleeve which is in Near Mint Minus condition and doesn't have any splits or tears. The beautiful white Near Mint Minus labels are very clean, scuff- and wear-free, only having a few very light spindle marks that can be seen only under a strong light source. The vinyl sounds very well in general but has some light occasional static, a few light clicks and a quick skip in one place. Perhaps some flaws will disappear if you change the balance of your tonearm. Most likely, they will also could get reduced or go away if the record was professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
