Original Columbia Records promotional Mono release of Miles Davis “Kind of Blue” released in August, 1959. 1st print cardboard cover with the “4” number in the lower right-hand corner identifying the manufacturer as Imperial Packing Co., Inc. The credits on the front and back cover contain a misprint reading “Adderly” as oppose to the correct one “Adderley”. Original Columbia Records white red 2.75” deep groove pressing ring CL 1355 “Made in U.S.A.” labels with the “Demonstration” banner at the top, above the “Kind of Blue” title, and “Not For Sale” banner on the right, above the “Side” print. Unlike the labels of commercial issues, these promotional labels display the global timing for each side as well as indicating the timing for each track separately. The Side 2 label has a track mis-order indicating “Flamenco Sketches” as the first track and “All Blues” as the second, the misprint that’s also present on the back cover. The misprint on the label was corrected only around November 1959. The vinyl pressed at the Columbia Records, Terre Haute, IN plant as identified by the “T” factory symbol in the runout on both sides has the following matrix numbers: Side 1 - XLP47324-1D T A1; Side 2 - XLP47325-1G T. This promotional copy comes with the original orange “1000 Eye” Columbia Records inner sleeve.

I grade the cover as Excellent. It's very clean and doesn't have any splits, ring wear or wear. The front cover only has a few creases along the edges. The sturdy spine contains a fully readable text. The back cover contains a small blank sticker in the upper left-hand corner. The glossy vinyl is graded Excellent Minus. It has a beautiful factory lacquer and barely contains any hairlines, just some very light surface scuffs from the inner sleeve, which is in Near Mint Minus condition and doesn't have any splits or tears. The gorgeous white labels are in Excellent Plus condition, completely scuff- and wear-free only having a few very light spindle marks that can be seen under a strong light source. The non-feelable scuffs don't affect the playback in any way and the vinyl sounds amazing, only having some very light occasional static, which most likely will go away if the record was professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
