Original London Records promotional release of The Rolling Stones' 3rd US studio album released only in the US in February, 1965. 1st print cover with two columns of the liner notes by Andrew Loog Oldham on the back of the same length, the later pressing was censored and therefore, the right column of the liner notes is shorter than the left one as the sentences "This is THE STONES new disc within. Cast deep in your pockets for loot to buy this disc of groovies and fancy words. If you don't have bread, see that blind man knock him on the head, steal his wallet and low and behold you have the loot, if you put in the boot, good, another one sold!" were removed. The back cover also contains a misprint mentioning Ian Stewart playing organ on "Time Is On My Side", but the track is missing on the record. The front cover contains the original promotional "featuring HEART OF STONE and LITTLE RED ROOSTER" white hype sticker and a ”Promotional Copy Not For Sale” promo sticker. 1st print open burgundy "Recorded in Europe" "Made in U.S.A." Full Frequency Range Recording 2.75' pressing ring London Records labels with the FFRR "Ear" logo and Mono catalog number LL3420. Original very early true 1st pressing vinyl with the very early 1st -1C / 1C matrix numbers in the runout groove. Most likely, the vinyl was pressed by Allentown Record Co. Inc. as it contains the "ARC" identifier in the trail-off vinyl of Side 2. Just like Monarch Record Mfg. Co., ARC was the subsidiary of Viewlex, Inc. The full first matrix numbers are as follows: Side 1 - ARL-6691-1C ARC 2-17-5; Side 2 - ARL-6692-1C ARC 2-17-5. The album comes with the original London Records "FFRR The Symbol of Sound Progress" poly-lined inner sleeve with the "Made in England R.S." and "U.K. Patent No. 1,072,844..." text.
★
I grade the cover as Excellent Minus. It's very clean and doesn't have any splits, writing or residue. There is some light shelf wear on the front and back, as well as two creases at the bottom left corner of the front cover. Some very light push-in on the bottom right corner. The rigid spine with a fully readable text and edges are in great condition and practically have no wear or scuffing. The vinyl is graded as Excellent. It has a beautiful factory lacquer containing very few non-feelable surface hairlines and scuffs that can be seen under a strong light. The labels are in great Near Mint Minus condition only having a couple of very light spindle marks that are visible only under a strong light. The original poly-lined London inner sleeve is in Near Minus condition and doesn't have any split or tears. The vinyl sounds great only having some very light occasional static which most likely would go away if the record was professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
