Original Capitol Records promotional copy of The Beatles 2 singles “All You Need Is Love” and “Baby, You’re a Rich Man” which were then included into the US version of the “Magical Mystery Tour” album. “All You Need Is Love”, just like the author credits indicate, was composed by Paul McCartney and John Lennon together and performed for the first time in history at the global show “Our World” which was broadcast on June 25th, 1967 via satellite TV in 26 countries. The song was composed specifically for the show concluding it and became the hymn of the decade. The copy listed for an auction is the promotional copy of these singles that was sent to radio stations several months before the record’s official release date of July 7, 1967. This Los Angeles issue is significantly rarer than the copies pressed at the Scranton, PA plant. This applies not only to the vinyl but also to the picture sleeve which contains the Los Angeles drop down “tab cut”. Original lime green “Promotion Record Not For Sale” labels with the Capitol Records logo and P-5964 catalog number. The Side 2 misprint label doesn’t contain the comma in “Baby, You’re a Rich Man” which is present on the picture sleeve. The full 1st matrix numbers including the Los Angeles plant’s “*” identifier are as follows: 45-X46047-F15 *; 45-X46048-F12 *. The second part of this promotional set is a very rare original July 29th, 1967 Billboard magazine containing a color poster advert with a photo of the band and a white banner below it indicating the title of the singles and "5694" catalog number.
★
I grade the picture sleeve as Near Mint Minus. It's very clean and doesn't have any splits, scuffs, ring wear, soiling or residue. The vinyl is graded as Strong Very Good Plus. It contains a beautiful factory lacquer only having some very light non-feelable surface hairlines as well some very light scuffs from the picture sleeve that don't affect the playback in any way. The labels are graded as Near Mint (Practically Mint Minus) for Side 1 (Baby You're a Rich Man) and Excellent for Side 2 as it has the barely visible remains of a ball pen writing above the "The Beatles" banner. Aside from that, the labels are very clean and don't have any scuffs, wear or spindle marks. The record's audio is graded as Excellent, or perhaps, even Near Mint Minus. The vinyl plays amazing with punchy vivid sound.
