1st JACKSONVILLE’S “THICK IN-HOUSE PRINT” LABELS WITH A MISPRINT OF “A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS”

Original 1st US East Coast Capitol Records, Jacksonville, IL plant pressing of The Beatles 8th studio album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” released on May 26, 1967. The rarest of all “Sgt. Pepper” cover variations final Mono pressing containing the "MACLEN MUSIC INC." and the vertical “"© 1967 NEMS - NEMS ENTERPRISES LIMITED" LIMITED" credits at the bottom right corner on the back, which also contains the “MAS-2653” Mono catalog number below the credits. This cover variation is extremely rare and comes across significantly rarer than the 1st cover variation without the NEMS / Maclen Music credits and the 2nd variation with only the NEMS credit on the back cover. The vast majority of the Mono covers do not have the credits as these covers were produced in limited quantity before the Mono issue went completely out of print. It's impossible to find this cover having the MAS-2653 catalog number and "NEMS / MACLEN" credits on the back, especially in such a beautiful condition. Original 1st print Capitol Records Jacksonville "thick in-house print" MAS-2653 catalog number 1” pressing ring incorrect labels with a multicolor band and a white perimeter print without the "Subsidiary of..." text. Side 1 label contains a misprint indicating the "With A Little Help From My Friends" track title as "A Little Help From My Friends" and has “The Beatles” placed to the right while the band name is centered on Side 2. The 1st issue vinyl pressed at the Capitol Records Jacksonville, IL plant contains the "O" identifier in the trail-off vinyl on both sides. The full 1st pressing matrix numbers are as follows: Side 1 - MAS X1 2653 G22 #2 O; Side 2 - MAS2 2653 F13 O. The album contains all of the original memorabilia, including the gimmick cut-out insert and 1st print custom red-pink-white "psychedelic" paper inner sleeve.

The covers of this last Mono issue are usually found in a pretty worn out condition with a severe ring wear and splits. However, the thick Jacksonville cover of this copy is in beautiful condition and is graded as Excellent. It has preserved its original saturated colors and is very clean without having any writing, soiling or residue. The rigid spine contains a fully readable text with the edges not having any splits or wear. There is just some very light overall age shelf wear on the front and back cover. The interior gatefold is in Excellent Plus / Near Mint Minus condition with the left panel having two light age discoloration spots. The vinyl is graded as somewhere between Strong Very Good Plus and Excellent Minus having just a few very light non-feelable surface hairlines and marks. The labels are very clean and in Near Mint (Practically Mint Minus) condition without having any scuffs or wear. The vinyl sounds amazing with just some very light occasional static that can be heard only at a loud volume during the quiet passages. The beginning of Side 2 has a couple of very light pops, but the balance of our phonograph's tonearm is set to a light weight and perhaps they will disappear if you set it to a heavier weight or would probably go away, along with the occasional static, if the record was professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. The original memorabilia are in Near Mint Minus condition.
